STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: First level degree in fields related to the visual arts, communication, journalism, photography, fine arts. Specialised training and / or certificate in video, photographic, digital content production will be an asset.

Experience: At least 5 years of professional experience in multimedia journalism, photography, videography, visual storytelling, writing. A good understanding of the socio-political, cultural and environmental context of West Africa

Excellent oral, editing, writing, design, layout and audiovisual skills, including with Adobe Creative Suite and websites; Capacity to quickly learn and deploy new tools and technologies; Strong creative problem-solving and detail oriented; Ability to manage integrated planning and competing priorities; Ability to lead, coach and motivate a diverse team working remotely.

Language: Fluency (level C) in English language and/or French.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters and the impact of climate change.

In Benin, WFP supports the national school feeding programme targeting 700,000 children in 3,800 schools across the country. The Government of Benin considers school feeding as a long-term pathway to achieve sustainable development and is investing substantially in the School, Health and Nutrition agenda. By the end of 2022, three out of four primary schools in Benin will receive daily school meals with the funding from the Government making it the first donor government for school feeding in West Africa. WFP supports the government efforts by strengthening technical capacities of local smallholder farmers while improving their access to stable markets in the country. WFP is committed to working with the Government of Benin to strengthen national capacities and drive the global coalition for school meals across the continent.

In support of the government-led, government-owned school feeding programme, WFP is recruiting a Communication and Advocacy Consultant to raise the profile of the programme, enhance visibility of local initiatives and show the impact of school meals on children and their communities.

JOB PURPOSE

Under the direct supervision of the Country Director, the Communication and Advocacy Consultant (Creative Content), will support production and design of various creative content projects, lead on post-production of content in liaison with the Regional Bureau, HQ and other WFP offices, travel to the field to gather and produce compelling multimedia storytelling – employing high-end professional videography, photography and, text and graphics skills - to show the impact of WFP’s work on families and communities.

Duration : 3 months

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1. Develop, maintain and update an appropriate work plan for the assigned area, which implements the corporate communications strategy, in order to maintain and enhance the visibility and reputation of WFP, and support fundraising activities, ensuring alignment with WFP strategy. 2. Plan, manage and evaluate communications campaigns that favourably impact the views of the public, opinion leaders and donors in order to raise WFP’s profile and support fundraising activities. 3. Prepare communications products that effectively convey the desired message to targeted audience(s). 4. Maintain and develop a contact list of journalists and media outlets, and manage the regular flow of news/information about WFP’s work to the media, ensuring reputational risks are identified and managed. 5. Define a social media plan for the assigned area which leverages social media content, platforms, networks and partners to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities. 6. Generate and/or facilitate the production of donor specific visibility content including, text, photos, videos and audio for use across a range of integrated online platforms, in order to support global and country fundraising activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages. 7. Track and analyse traditional and online media, to identify trends and/or issues, and propose solutions and ideas to improve the effectiveness of communication strategy and activities. 8. Manage junior communications officers/team, develop work plans, monitor performance against objectives, and ensure appropriate development to enable high performance. 9. Coordinate and prepare accurate and timely reporting on communications activities that enables informed decision-making, evaluation of objectives and consistency of information presented to stakeholders. 10. Build capacity of WFP staff on all aspects of external relations communication, providing advice, guidance and training to ensure consistent, quality communications activities that deliver the desired impact. 11. Work in close collaboration with counterparts to align activities and ensure a coherent approach to communications within WFP. 12. Contribute to preparedness actions, providing technical recommendations and guidance and monitoring the management of communications specific risks. 13. Other as required.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT (inclusive and not exclusively):

  • Creative content briefs, field production and post-production for audiovisual and photographic narratives related to school feeding.
  • One photo album containing 50 high-resolution photos with descriptive captions, names of beneficiaries, activities, location, copyrights, etc. The photo-album should reflect programmes/interventions, activities, as well as impact on communities / environment for social media use, reports,
  • Produce video stories featuring beneficiaries, highlighting different aspects of WFP-supported programmes in Benin.
  • Bespoke social media assets (infographics, GIFs, micro-videos etc.) designed to highlight the impact of WFP interventions to audiences who are likely to be unfamiliar with these issues, explaining the food security and nutrition problems and showcasing the results.

Qualifications and Specialized Knowledge/Experience Required

  • Keen knowledge of storytelling and understanding diverse audiences and approaches to reaching them
  • Demonstrated experience in developing original stories, short form video clips and multimedia products that are shared through social media.
  • Ability to operate latest equipment to deliver videography, photographs, and multimedia content according to the specified quality and technical requirements.
  • Proven skills operating video production and editing equipment and proficiency in non-linear editing, use of Adobe Creative Cloud, - Adobe Premier, Audition, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, 2D/3D motion graphics – After Effects, (animation, composition, VFX, title sequencing a plus)

  • Qualities of self-motivation, strong organization skills, collaborative skills

  • Willingness and ability to travel in difficult terrain with minimum amenities
