Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), duty station Bamako. Under the overall command of the Principal Security Adviser (PSA) and the Deputy PSA/Operations, the Close Protection Officer at FS-4 level reports directly to the Close Protection Coordinator through his/her Team Leader on all close protection issues.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority and under the direct supervision of the Close Protection Team Leader, the Close Protection Officer will carry out the following duties: - Conducts close protection operations for Senior UN Officials; - Remains within the proximity of the Senior UN Officials at all times and implements mitigating measures to preserve his/her security and safety; - Remains vigilant and alert at all times due to potential threats to the Senior UN Official. - Maintains an effective and efficient security coverage for the office and personal residence of the Senior UN Official; - Conducts close protection operations in accordance with UNDSS Manual of Guidance and policies on close protection Operations; - Coordinates activities with relevant parties and interlocutors including other appropriate security organizations as required; - Co-ordinates with local authorities during close protection operations; - Conducts advance work and implement pre-established security arrangements; - Contributes to pre-deployment briefings; - Operates all close protection equipment and logistics to ensure its operational readiness; - Assists in training sessions on close protection matters to keep abreast with current tactics and techniques; - When necessary, supervises the Close Protection Unit drivers and Local Security Assistants in the performance of their assigned duties; - Perform any other duties as required. Work implies frequent interaction with the following: - Field Security Coordination Officers, Close Protection Coordinator - Team Leader Close Protection Unit - Other Close Protection Officers and DSS & Mission Security Officers in the mission - FSA from UN Agencies - Office of the Senior UN Officials - Host Government officials - MINUSMA and Security officials from other national and international organizations

Education - High school diploma or equivalent technical or vocational certificate. - UNDSS certification in the Close Protection Officers Course (CPOC) or completion of an international, national or commercial close protection training is highly desirable. - Training in martial arts and/or specialized security practices is an asset. - Certification in evasive driving techniques is desirable

Work Experience At least 6 years of progressively responsible experience in close protection with a local, national, private or international security organization is required.

At least one-year experience and exposure in a conflict or post conflict duty station is required.

Knowledge of CP operations in a high-risk environment is desirable.

Experience in handling pistol and rifle weapons systems and communication equipment is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the positions advertised, fluency in oral and written French is required. Working knowledge of English is desirable.
