Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia. The Close Protection Officer at FS-4 level will carry out functions as Security Liaison Officer and reports to the Close Protection Coordinator (CPC) through the Protection Services Unit's Team Leader.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority and under the general supervision of the Close Protection Coordinator (CPC), the Close Protection Officer at the FS-4 level, when fulfilling his/her functions as Security Liaison Officer, will carry out the following duties for which demonstrated high standard of physical fitness is essential: •Reports to the Protection Services Unit (PSU) Team Leader on official moves of the Senior UN Official; •Provides advice on operational requirements within the mandated area of operations and the time of assignment; •Maintains security coverage for the working office and, as would be needed, personal residence of the Senior UN Official; •Ensures that mitigating measures are in place at all time to deter or deny identified threat and to preserve the security, safety and wellbeing of the Senior UN Officials; •Conducts Security Liaison Officer operations; •Accompanies the Senior UN Official during official travels and coordinates all related security requirements; •Within delegated authority, liaises with relevant security focal points; •Prior to initiating a deployment, coordinates with representatives of mission units or departments on issues of the location, as well as public forces, on the current threat and political climate and assesses, plans, coordinates and executes close protection operations; •Provides guidance on changes that might occur whilst on duty; •De-briefs PSU´s Officers and assesses each move upon conclusion; •Assists the PSU´s Team Leader or equivalent in drafting the Statements of Requirement and provides technical specifications for the procurement of unit and team equipment; •Performs any other duties as required.

Education A high school diploma or equivalent technical or vocational certificate is required.

Technical training in military or police procedures as well as training in close protection , self defense and security techniques is required

Completion of an international, national or commercial close protection training is desirable; recent (within two years) successful completion of an emergency trauma bag certification or equivalent of a first aid certification is desirable; training in martial arts and/or specialized security practices is desirable.

Work Experience At least six years of progressively responsible experience in close protection with a local, national, private or international security organization is required. Experience in the use of personal protection weapons, communications/surveillance equipment and close protection transportation is required. At least one year experience and exposure at the international level and in a conflict, post conflict or complex environment is required. Experience and proficiency in the use of protection weapons, communications, surveillance equipment and vehicles is required. Experience working in close protection in or in support of a field operation of the United Nations Common System or a comparable international organization is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English and Spanish (both oral and written) is required.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
