The IRC’s Resettlement, Asylum and Integration (RAI) department creates opportunities for refugees and other vulnerable migrants to gain stability and control of their future. RAI serves more than 100,000 individuals each year, through a diverse portfolio of programs aimed at five core outcomes: Health, Safety, Economic Wellbeing, Education and Power. The IRC opened an office in Wichita, Kansas in 2012 to provide reception and placement services to newly arrived refugees, Since that time, IRC Wichita has expanded services to include employment, safety and wellness and immigration. IRC Wichita is seeking an independently licensed mental health therapist to join our team to provide individual/group services to refugees and immigrants.

Job Overview/Summary:

The primary role of Clinical Therapist is ensure that clients have access to on-going psycho-social support to serve their adjustment needs as well as ensures additional culturally and linguistically sensitive mental health referral support services are available. for refugees, asylees, and humanitarian parolees using a trauma-informed approach that improves clients’ resiliency, strengths, and skills. Therapist conducts initial client intakes and assessments, to determine needs for therapeutic service plans. In this role clinical service models may include individual and/or group therapy, as well as managing crisis interventions as needed. This position will work as part of a team and coordinate activities with IRC staff, service providers, and other IRC partners. The Clinical Therapist will also support outreach activities to raise awareness among community providers regarding mental health needs for IRC client populations.

Major Responsibilities:

- Provide intake, and manage assessment, development, and implementation of treatment plans that best meet the clients’ needs; maintain a case load of approximately 15-20 clients. Practice within the scope of the license, education, skills, and competency. - Provide outreach and capacity building in the form of education to area therapists to improve awareness of how to best support and care for displaced persons with trauma history, mental and emotional challenges/illness. - Develop a network of community providers and support facilitation of referrals to higher level of care and/or continuation of care when appropriate - Assess emergency and crisis situations and take appropriate and necessary steps to support clients’ safety, such as, suicide assessments, safety planning, mandatory reporting as needed. - Develop and maintain effective working relationships with community agencies, case managers and clinical teams; make referrals to other services, supports and resources where needed. Be a strong advocate on behalf or clients to ensure they are receiving adequate and quality services. - Provide clinical consultation for IRC staff according to standard operating procedure and professional legal/ethical standard. - Develop or modified group curricula according to program and client needs. - Arrange for and utilize appropriate interpretation services as needed. - Provide refugee/immigrant behavioral health-related education to the community. - Provide accurate and detailed documentation, reporting and tracking in a timely manner and according to Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board standards; maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients’ treatment. - Complete program quarterly tracking and report in a timely manner. - Participate in clinical supervision, program meetings, staff development activities, clinical consultations, and fully engage as a member of the Intensive Case Management team. - Participate in outreach and network capacity-building activities as needed. - Follow all IRC policies, procedures and protocols including adherence to the IRC Way and Adult/Child Safeguarding.

External: Referral partners, other social service agencies in Wichita

Job Requirements:

Education:

- Currently licensed by in and good standing with the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (LAC, LMSW, LPC, or LCSW). - Master’s degree in social services or related field. - Maintains current professional liability insurance

Work Experience:

- At least one year of related work experience serving foreign nationals or other vulnerable populations preferred. - At least two years’ experience providing mental health therapy, alternative specialty a plus. - Experience working with a full range of psychological disorders and providing trauma treatment. - Experience with refugees, asylum seekers, torture survivors, and humanitarian parolees preferred. - Case management and/or victim’s assistance experience preferred. - Trauma experience preferred.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

- Strong organizational skills and detail oriented. - Self-motivated and ability to work independently and be an excellent teammate - Excellent writing and analytical skills. - Public speaking and/or presentation experience preferred. - Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and work as a team member with collaborative partners, the community, and clients in a cross-cultural multi-disciplinary environment. - Computer literacy, data base experience preferred.

Language Skills:

- Excellent written and spoken English skills. - Proficiency in a second language spoken by the client base strongly preferred (Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Pashto, Dari, Somali, Tigrinya, Arabic).

Certificates or Licenses:

- Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle. - In accordance with Kansas State Law, must possess or be eligible to receive a fingerprint clearance card.

Other:

Willingness to supervise (clinical/case management) interns/volunteers when ready and appropriate.

Working Environment:

A combination of telehealth, standard office work environment combined with some travel throughout service delivery area for groups, therapy, home visits, partner meetings, etc.

Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
