Organizational Setting

The Government of Grenada is undertaking its readiness activities for accessing Green Climate Fund (GCF) resources to address climate change. The readiness project, “National Adaptation Planning for Improved Food Security in Grenada”, will seek to reduce the impact of climate change on food security in Grenada by strengthening the generation, management, dissemination and building capacities for the use of critical information to accelerate adaptation action in Grenada’s agriculture and fisheries sector. The activities under this Readiness will: • Improve the knowledge base of national and local stakeholders on the impacts of climate change on the fisheries and agriculture sector • Determine the risks and vulnerability of priority crops and species • Improve weather data and information systems including creation of a precipitation index • Build capacity of key stakeholders to identify and implement climate change related interventions

Reporting Lines

The Consultant will report to the Project Coordinator in Grenada, the Climate and Environment Finance Specialist, and the Lead Technical Officer in the Food and Agriculture Organization.

Technical Focus

Climate change and natural resource planning and policy.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Assess and identify climate smart technologies (inclusive of the consideration of gender issues) for reducing food insecurity due to climate variability for each of the agricultural and fisheries products and value chains in Grenada • Provide technical support for pilot projects inclusive of support for the selection of project, technical support to farmers/fishers in the implementation of pilot projects • Provide technical advice to project participants and implementing agencies on strategies to promote and maintain climate resilient technologies in Grenada within the fishing and agriculture sectors • Ensure pilot projects are sustainable and applicable to the local climate/weather conditions and crop types • Collaborate with relevant ministries and project personnel to engage with all relevant stakeholders as required • Develop, coordinate and deliver workshops for the engagement of farmers, fisherfolk and other relevant stakeholders for the participatory prioritization of the technologies to be pilot tested. • Provide technical support to Pilot-testing climate resilient technologies and practices for agricultural and fisheries products/value chains • Assess the adaptation value of the prioritized technologies pilot-tested for prioritized agricultural and fisheries products (inclusive of gender considerations). • Design, facilitate and deliver training for Government technical officers and extension officers in agriculture and fisheries officers on the use of the guidelines for the implementation of the technologies • Design informative leaflets for dissemination to public and project participants • Support to complete donor bi-annual report

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• Master’s degree in Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Environmental Planning or a related field. • At least 5 years’ direct experience in agriculture and fisheries projects • Working knowledge (level C) of English and limited knowledge (level B) of Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish for Consultants; Working knowledge of English for PSA Subscribers.

Technical/ Functional Skills

• Knowledge and direct experience with climate change mitigation and adaptation interventions specific to Grenada in the agriculture and fisheries sectors • Experience in gender considerations in a project setting. Certification in gender policy/analysis in projects is preferred • Demonstrated awareness about key global climate change technological interventions and their applicability to the fishing and agriculture sectors • Proven experience of leading climate change adaptation planning at a national level • Strong experience in conducting and developing workshops and/or trainings will be an asset • Excellent reporting and analytical skills • Excellent communication and facilitation skills. • Good analytical and troubleshooting skills • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English • Excellent digital presentation skills (including over virtual channels) • Ability to interact with and work with a diverse array of people
