About the Program:

The NDC Partnership is a global coalition of countries and institutions collaborating to drive transformational climate action through sustainable development. In 2015, the world endorsed the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Nations signal their commitments to the Paris Agreement through Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) - each country’s strategy to cut its own greenhouse gas emissions and build resilience against the negative effects of a changing climate. The Partnership advances the goals of the Paris Agreement by bringing together more than 200 countries and institutions in new ways to accelerate NDC implementation and enhance ambition over time. The Partnership’s work through 120 partners supporting more than 90 countries produces many examples of impact, lessons learned and ideas for the future. The Partnership is governed by a Steering Committee, co-chaired by two country representatives. Hosted by WRI, the UNFCCC Secretariat, and UNOPS, the NDC Partnership has members in all regions of the world, with staff in Washington DC and Bonn, Germany.

Job Highlight:

Reporting to the Support Unit’s Climate Finance Associate and under the guidance of the Head of Climate Finance, you will help implement of the NDC Finance Strategy, including supporting finance-related country and partner engagement efforts, organizing convenings and events, developing analytical products, and managing data on finance-related matters.

The Partnership is uniquely positioned to help bridge the finance gap through its broad network of countries and partners, bringing together the demand for and the supply of climate finance. In 2022, the Partnership launched a Finance Strategy, outlining the building blocks to improve the flow of and access to finance for ambitious climate action. By strengthening existing efforts on climate finance and bringing together some of the world’s largest development finance institutions, the Partnership is a catalytic platform for financing climate action. Also, in February 2023, the Support Unit of the Partnership designed a Finance Action Plan to help implement the Finance Strategy, sharpen the Partnership’s offer to member countries, and further leverage support from implementing and development partners.

What will you do:

Climate Finance Support (70%):

  • Help implement the Finance Strategy, including mainstream climate finance, project identification and matchmaking, intelligence on sources of finance, and overall finance needs at the Support Unit
  • Support the Country Engagement Team to advance the Partnership’s service offerings to members countries, scope needs and support, collect and share practices and experiences, and assist on the engagement with countries and partners as requested
  • Lead efforts to understand countries’ finance needs across categories, response rates, support offered, and gaps to inform the NDC Partnership work and IP/DP programming
  • Support efforts to collect, analyze, and report finance-related data, including for the Partnership's M&E Framework
  • Support efforts to communicate the Partnership’s finance offer and impact internally and externally
  • Help develop training, guidance, and tools for the SU team and the wider Partnership on climate finance
  • Support the design, preparation, delivery, and follow-up of virtual and in-person events on finance-related topics
  • Help develop analytical products, including Insight Briefs on trends in NDC implementation and climate finance
  • Lead efforts to map finance-related support within the Partnership and beyond, with a view of connecting country needs with available support
  • Support efforts related to the identification, categorization, and matchmaking of countries’ climate investment projects
  • Draft reports, website content, blog posts, talking points, presentation decks, infographics, brochures, and other communication materials
  • Support efforts to map and engage with members, non-members, and key initiatives to mobilize finance-related support to member countries

Ad-Hoc Responsibilities(30%):

  • Support meetings and calls with country representatives, institutional partners, and country experts on the NDC Partnership team, gaining insight into countries' experiences with NDC implementation and climate finance
  • Attend team meetings, training sessions, and other required meetings
  • Prepare presentations and talking points for the Support Unit team on various topics related to the NDC Partnership's work, including background papers for Steering Committee meetings
  • Support partner engagement, including virtual and in-person meetings, high level events, peer exchanges, thematic partner discussions among development partners and implementing partners and events overall
  • Tasks include, circulating meeting invites and confirmation of attendees, among others. Scheduling, note taking, and other coordinating tasks

What will you need:

  • Education: You have completed a bachelor’s degree in social or natural sciences or related area
  • Experience: You have a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience including in climate change and sustainable development in the public or private sectors in developing countries, with a special focus on access to climate finance
  • Experience working on climate finance topics with (i) government institutions (e.g. ministries of finance, central banks, public development banks, and line ministries), (ii) financiers (public and private), and (iii) development cooperation partners as a differential
  • Excellent research and analytical skills evidenced through past work
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, evidenced through past roles and deliverables
  • Experience in organizing and implementing multi-stakeholder convenings on climate finance as a strong asset
  • Ability to present complex information clearly and concisely
  • Strong computer skills, including a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint, as well as web-based communications ideally experience with databases and web platforms
  • Strong attention to detail. Flexible and self-motivated. Ability to think creatively
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Languages: Verbal and written English proficiency. Ability to work in Arabic, French, Portuguese, or Spanish would be an asset
  • Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization

Potential Salary: US salary range is between 69 K and 73 K USD. GER: 40K – 54K EUR. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
