Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Head of Country Programme of Yemen or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer-National hydrology / Integrated Water Resource Management / GIS expert Yemen GCF readiness project will be responsible for the following duties:

To support conducting hydrology / IWRM-related assessments / studies as part of a climate change vulnerability assessment in the field and to support capacity strengthening activities in Yemen, including:

• In the field roll-out of a capacity strengthening / training package to enable sub-national authorities (Lahj and Aden governorates) and key actors in the water sector, including government and non-governmental actors, to conduct hydrology / IWRM-related assessments / studies as part of a climate change vulnerability assessment in the Tuban delta and to support adaptation planning • Support in-the-field development of a data collection system for the government and Aden and Lahj governorates • Support the international water / IWRM expert with the development of hydrology / IWRM-related assessment tools, methods and templates for the Tuban delta

The consultant will be directly working with: - Team leader - International Water / IWRM strategy expert - National climate change vulnerability assessment specialist - National / local governance experts for Aden and Lahj

And coordinate with: - International climate change expert

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day). • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country. • Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers. • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience after receipt of the required academic qualification in the relevant field • Demonstrated experience in conducting hydrology / IWRM-related assessments / studies and planning is required • Demonstrated experience in using GIS applications is required • Demonstrated experience conducting an ESIA is an advantage • Proficiency in computer skills and word processing, spreadsheet, Microsoft access and other applications is required. • Experience in establishing inter-relationships with counterparts and organizations is desirable. • Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills is desirable. • Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team is desirable. • Excellent command of English and Arabic, both oral and written, is required.

The assignment is national specialist.
