Climate Change Specialist

Description of task
Under the direct supervision of the RCC Regional Lead, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
- Facilitate the regional Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) Networks to support countries in implementing the Enhanced Transparency Framework under the Paris Agreement;
- Build regional institutional capacity on the Enhanced Transparency Framework;
- Identify priorities, needs and gaps of countries in the region for NDC implementation;
- Provide specific capacity development activities (e.g. training workshops and webinars) and dedicated support to countries upon request on MRV, climate finance and carbon pricing;
- Facilitate/participate in events/workshops (e.g. Africa Climate Week, regional and national workshops);
- Identify new and enhance existing regional partnership such as with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), Africa Development Bank (AfDB), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), etc.
Qualifications/Requirements
Required degree level:
Master degree or equivalent
Education - Additional Comments:
Master’s degree in environmental management, climate change sciences, environmental economics, economics, or a related field.
Required experience:
24 Months
Experience remark:
2 years of relevant professional experience working in the field of climate change, specifically experience in supporting stakeholders in implementing mitigation actions is an asset. Knowledge of climate change mitigation issues, sustainable development, economics, or social issues is desired. Knowledge of information exchange and interaction with various stakeholders including governments, international organizations, research institutions, private sector and Civil Society Organizations is also an important asset.

Pre-departure training organized by the Government of Finland
The selected candidate will be invited to attend a training on Finland’s development policy and cooperation prior to deployment from 1 to 3 September 2021.
