Climate change has particularly impact in the Caribbean, where more frequent and severe climate induced disasters threatens the sustainability of development pathways in the five countries covered by the UNDP Multi-Country Offfice. The UNV Youth – Climate Change, Energy and Environment Associate works within the Programme and Policy Support Team within the UNDP Multi-Country Office, and in close collaboration with global and regional specialists at the UNDP Regional Hub and Headquarters units to develop new programming, support implementation of ongoing programming, exchange information and ensure consistent service delivery.

Under the direct supervision of the Team Leader for Programme and Policy Support, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

· Provide support for programme development through the collection, analysis, and presentation of background information for preparation of strategic documents related results across the UNDP’s portfolio on key development priorities.

· Assist in the implementation of programme quality assurance and oversight processes for project development and implementation based on donor requirements.

· Support in the identification and implementation of South-South Cooperation activities related to the country programme.

· Support the implementation of project activities including the monitoring of progress against the project results framework and the approved annual workplans to achieve development objectives.

· Support the sourcing of personnel, goods and services including drafting terms of reference and work specifications and follow up of all contractors’ work throughout the project design and development phases.

· Support in the management and monitoring of project risks identified and submission of new risks to the project board for consideration and decision on possible actions if required, maintenance of the project risks log.

· Support the planning and coordination of strategic coordination and promotion events, including conferences, seminars, workshops, consultations, meetings, press briefings and other programme activities.

· Support the UNDP MCO in building strategic partnerships and targeted outreach related to the country programme, specifically with UN Agencies, IFI’s, government institutions, bilateral & multi-lateral donors, private sector, and civil society including on matters related to the promotion of national commitments to gender equality with a view of ensuring strategic partnerships and strengthening collaboration.

Project/programme coordination/support/management.

Experience in the use of computers and office software packages.

Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience in an international setting, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded.

Jamaica is a Caribbean country with good living conditions. The country is designated a Hardship Category “A” duty station. Consequently, no special precautions nor conditions apply to staff members locating to this duty station.

There is no problem of normal water and electricity supply in built up areas island wide. Housing conditions are of varying quality depending on the area. Travelers to Jamaica are advised to take normal security precautions required in larger cities and will receive a security briefing upon arrival to note areas to avoid.

With its motto "out of many, one people", Jamaica has a rich and diverse culture blended from around the world. The official language of Jamaica is English; however, one is most likely to hear the local dialect, Patois. There are several international franchises and established local companies that will find the right accommodation for expatriates. Colleagues in the international community are also a good reference point for housing and other related services.

Jamaica has over 16 public and 6 private hospitals located around the island. There are several good schools in Jamaica at all levels. Additionally ,there are over 50 tertiary institutions presently operating in Jamaica, which are either publicly or privately owned. Jamaica has a well-established banking system, and all major credit cards are accepted as a means of payment for commercial transactions.

Jamaica offers excellent food and dining options from casual dining experiences to fine restaurants. Public transportation as well as private taxis are readily available and easily accessible at generally reasonable fares.
