The Resident Coordinator’s Office in Serbia would like to engage a UNV as Climate Change Associate to provide support to the UNRC/UNCT in the advancement of green transformation and climate change priorities, reflected in the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF). First strategic priority in UNSDCF is to harness the full potential of green, sustainable, and inclusive economy that increases opportunities for all and manage risks. It aims to contribute to the long-term prosperity and resilience of the country’s economy and ecosystem for the benefit of all people, UNCT together with its government and international partners supports these processes by providing technical assistance, capacity building, advocacy initiatives and operation support.

This UNV Assignment will be mostly involved in Cooperation Framework 2021-2025 implementation in environment, climate change, green and sustainable economy processes in the country.

Under the direct supervision of UN Resident Coordinator and in close coordination with Team Leader and the Economist, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Provides general administrative and research assistance to RC/ in the areas of environment, climate change, green economy, and sustainable development. • Supports analysis and assessments relevant for the UNSDCF and to result group 1 on the development of various strategies in the environment and climate change area. • Supports inputs consolidation for the UNCT Results Group 1 and Monitoring and Evaluation Group; • Engages with the RCO head of office, RCO economist, and the DCO regional En-vironment Advisor and relevant focal points in UN Development Coordination Of-fice (DCO);
• Supports the development of advocacy and communications campaigns to pro-mote climate action through close liaison with UN Communications Group and with specific focus on young people; • Assists RCO team in compiling all regular and ad hoc reports; • Supports organization and implementation of meetings and maintain the data base of UN partners in specific thematic areas; • Maintains a climate change related folder of all relevant documents and main-tains list of contacts (government, civil society, private sector) • Ensures smooth flow information and engagement with UNFCCC. • Identities and maps options for climate change related funding and contribute to preparation of UNCT joint programming activities; • Works closely with other UNVs in UNCT Serbia in promoting volunteerism in UN development activities; • Participates in SDG related work relevant for these programmatic activities.

in climate action related project/programmes. • Familiar with the international development concept in climate action and environment • Strong overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.), and office technology equipment • Demonstrated interest in climate change and environmental issues • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded

The UN Volunteer will be based in Belgrade, the capital of the Republic of Serbia. The urban area of Belgrade has a population of 1.23 million, while nearly 1.7 million people live within the administrative limits of the City of Belgrade. Belgrade has an extensive public transport system consisting of buses, trams, trolleybuses and S-Train, which is affordable and widely used by residents. The city is well connected with the other parts of the country as well as with other European cities and capitals by busses, trains and airlines. Thanks to Belgrade’s central location, most of the other European cities are a couple of hours away. Belgrade itself became one of the prominent touristic destinations in Europe. Belgrade offers a unique sense of history, a rich vein of culture, and a variety of entertaining, cultural, sport and out-door experiences. Social life in Belgrade is usually a pleasant experience for foreigners and there is a range of activities available. Belgrade real estate market is very vibrant, and it is not difficult to find safe and comfortable accommodation. Services in terms of banking, transportation, communications, etc. are well-developed and available. The significant number of people in Belgrade speak English, so it won’t be a problem in everyday communication. English-speaking media is available, and restaurants and cafes have menus in English.

UN Volunteer entitlements and allowances: The purpose of the allowances and entitlements paid to UN Volunteers is to enable UN Volunteers to sustain a secure standard of living at the duty stations in line with United Nations standards without incurring personal costs. The allowances are in no way to be understood as compensation, reward, or salary in exchange for the UN Volunteer’s service. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.
