You have:

  • 5 years experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required.
  • Valid Driving License is required.
  • Supplementary driving training is required.
  • Certificate of Police good conduct is required.
  • Knowledge of different Embassies, Governments, and Non-Government offices is desirable.
  • Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles is desirable.
  • English both oral and written knowledge is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The UNEP Addis Ababa Office is charged with liaison and partnership development with the African Union (AU), the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and organizations in the Un Country Team (UNCT) in Ethiopia as UNEP is accredited to Ethiopia, the office also acts as a partner to Ethiopian government institutions and the non-governmental sectors, including civil society organizations. Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Office, the Driver/Clerk will perform the following duties: • Drives vehicles safely for the transport of authorised personnel and for the transport of general cargo goods. • Provide logistical support on administrative matters. • Makes deliveries of parcels, documents, etc., between the office and other offices and institutions, e.g. Ministries, Embassies, Permanent Missions, etc. • Makes minor purchases and collect urgent purchases from local suppliers as requested. • Collect goods from the customs with due regard to customs regulations and formalities. • Meets official personnel at the airport. • Deals effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors. • Takes care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc. • Perform minor repairs and arranges for other repairs and ensures that vehicle is kept clean. • Logs fuel consomption, maintenance etc. • Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of accident. • Applies good judgment in the context of assignments given. • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills

Supplementary driving training is required. Valid Driving License is required. Certificate of Police good conduct is required. 5 years experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans and other kinds of motorized vehicle is desirable. Knowledge of different Embassies, Government and Non Government office is desirable Experience with UN is desirable

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations secretariat. For this position, English both oral and written knowledge is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
