OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The role of Office of the Legal Counsel (LEG) is to provide legal input, during the planning and implementation of the Organizations activities, so as to facilitate effective cooperation between Member States, international bodies, international officials, collaborating institutions and individuals and commercial entities; to ensure that the activities are carried out on a firm legal basis; to protect the Organization's legal interest and defend it from legal action.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

  • Assist in drafting simple correspondence, handle telephone calls, logging incoming/outgoing corrrespondence, filing;
  • Provide clerical input during sessions of the various governing body meetings so as to assist in facilitating effective discharge of the functions served by the GBI unit;
  • Assist in administrative support including the GSM - i.e. travel, procurement and other administrative work as required in accordance with WHO rules, practices and procedures;
  • Assist in submissions to the ILO Administrative Tribunal, thoroughly verifiying, assembling and despatching WHO's submissions;
  • Incumbent is expected to act with discretion and be pro-active while performing his/her functions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: Completion of secondary school education or equivalent.

Experience

Essential: At least 1 year of relevant experience. Desirable: Some UN system experience in servicing governing body meetings.

Skills

The incumbent maintains and updates knowledge in the use of office technology. He/She must keep aware of changes in procedures and practices, rules and regulations and organizational structure in WHO.

Use of Language Skills

Essential: Expert knowledge of English. Desirable: Intermediate knowledge of French. The above language requirements are interchangeable.

REMUNERATION

WHO offers staff in the General Services category an attractive remuneration package, which for the above position includes an annual net base salary starting at CHF 57,835 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
