Background information – Lao PDR

In October 2017, UNOPS established its new country office in Vientiane, the capital of Lao PDR. The Project portfolio of UNOPS in Lao PDR traces back to 2007 and it includes Small Grants Programme supported by the Global Environment Fund, the Regional Artemisinin Initiative (RAI) implemented jointly with the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM), SUN Support to Civil Society Alliance Laos, funded by Multi-partners Trust Fund and development programs in cooperation with the Swiss Development Agency (SDA) and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

The UNOPS Lao PDR Office is part of the UNOPS Cambodia Multi-Country Office (KHMCO), which provides oversight, support and services to UNOPS operations in the country offices. UNOPS Lao PDR has been expanding its area of engagement in cooperation with its development partners, focusing mainly on a portfolio of projects and programs in the infrastructure, governance, procurement, justice, environment and agricultural sector and subsequently is looking for qualified and committed experts.

Background Information – Job Specific The Cleaner is required to provide professional cleaning services maintaining the hygiene of the premises and around.

Functional Responsibilities

The Cleaner will based in Lao PDR office and will report to the Project Manager and carry out the following:

Key Results expected:

  • To provide professional cleaning services to UNOPS premises.
  • To observe the environmental safety of the detergents used, in accordance with sanitary standards.
  • To observe the norms and rules of safety, fire and electrical safety.
  • To commit to wear the Personal protection equipment(PPE) at all times while providing the cleaning services

    Functional responsibilities:

  • Sweeping, washing the floor with the use of detergents;

  • Removal of dust and local contamination from the open surfaces of cabinets, shelves, tables, chairs, desks, electrical and office equipment, switches, table lamps, window sills;
  • Removal of dust and stains from doors, door frames, handles;
  • Collection of waste and paper from baskets, removal of waste to the designated place, inserting plastic bags into trash cans;
  • Cleaning of mirror and glass surfaces;
  • Watering flowers and caring for plants;
  • Cleaning, washing, disinfection with special solutions of sinks, tiled walls, dispensers and accessories;
  • Filling dispensers with liquid soap and toilet paper, disposable paper for toilet, towels and deodorants;
  • Washing dishes (in the kitchen and in offices) and keeping the refrigerator and other kitchen appliances clean.

    Monthly deep cleaning

  • Cleaning of floors: sweeping, washing, removing stains from the floor, deep cleaning of the floor;

  • Removal of dust, removal of stains and sticky substances (chewing gum, traces of glue, etc.) from floors;
  • Removal of dust from the ventilation & AC grilles on ceilings and walls, cleaning of blinds, upholstered furniture;
  • Washing of windows.
  • Washing and disinfection of trash bins and disinfection rooms

    Other duties:

  • Cleaning of the conference room area before and after the arrival of visitors;

  • Other duties at the discretion of UNOPS within the framework of this Terms of Reference.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education: - Secondary High School is desirable.

Experience:

  • Experience in cleaning and housekeeping is highly desired.
  • Experience of working with the UN/NGO is preferable.

Language:

  • Proficient Lao speaking skills, basic Lao writing and reading skills are highly desirable.
  • Basic English speaking skills and a good understanding of the English Language in general is highly desirable.

Contract type, level and duration

  • Contract type: Local Individual Contract Agreement (LICA)
  • Contract level: LICA 1 / ICS 1
  • Contract duration: 60% part-time position. The contract is on-going and subject to organizational requirements, availability of funds, and satisfactory performance
  • Duty station: Vientiane, Lao PDR. Vientiane is a family duty station.
