This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

In the preparation of the upcoming municipal elections the project will provide technical assistance and advisory support to the electoral management bodies in the country. In addition, the project will work with civil society organizations and civic groups to enhance awareness and knowledge of citizens and voter at large on topics related to legal framework, women and youth rights and inclusive political participation. Within this context, the project is seeking to recruit a Civil Society Project Assistant to follow up on the implementation of common activities and joint initiatives with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and other stakeholders and assist in providing logistical assistance to the organization of trainings across the country.

Relevance/purpose of the work required and how it is linked to the project context
One of the main components of the project aims at building trust and confidence in the Lebanese institutions and in the electoral processes through active and sustained engagement and a comprehensive program targeting citizens and voters at large with a particular focus on women, youth and persons with disabilities. In this context, the project works to establish joint programs with CSOs and other stakeholders to positively engage different marginalized groups and advocate inclusive participation in electoral processes. The position is required in order to strengthen the cooperation and coordination with partners and CSOs and follow up and monitoring on the expected deliverables.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of LEAP CTA or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Civil Society Project Assistant will:

• Assist and provide substantive support in the implementation of thematic activities focused on elections, inclusiveness, participation and human rights; • Coordinate and follow up with CSOs on activities/deliverables related to youth, women and PWDs participation in the political life and elections; • Provide assistance in the development of the terms of reference and grants for CSOs on activities and deliverables for the youth, women and PWDs participation in the political life and elections; • Follow-up on the progress of relevant activities and programs implemented, including logistic and operational support; • Provide regular briefings to project team, especially focusing on youth, women and PWDs engagement and participation; • Prepare the logistics of training sessions, workshops, meetings, and other activities pertaining to the project, in coordination with the related team member; • Prepare travel requests and arrange the security clearance, accommodation and transportation for project staff, consultants, and partners; • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in Beirut. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
