Duties and Responsibilities

Organizational Setting, Purpose and Objective: The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The West Asia Office delivers advisory services and capacity building support to countries to achieve environment and sustainable development objectives. This consultancy is established at the West Asia Office within the framework of the Strategic Cooperation Agreement between UNEP and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Consultant will report to the Project Manager at UNEP West Asia Office.

Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager in UNEP West Asia Office and in coordination with the respective department in the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Consultant will carry-out, inter alia, the following duties & responsibilities:

1.Development of Environmental Forum to be a platform for all partners and key stakeholders. 2.Development of engagement strategy to attract youth and women associations (Formulation of friends of environment societies at universities, schools, sports clubs, among others. •Linking the youth and women with relevant financial bodies to support their initiatives. •Mainstreaming of gender issues within civil societies policies and programs. 3.Development of partnership strategy to mainstreaming environmental issues within faith organization agenda, including development of thematic and/or geographic networks. 4.Development of initiatives, projects proposals (empowerment of Civil Societies) and guidelines, technical advice for key events such as World Environment Day 202 and UNCCD COP16 among others 5.Development of Lobby and advocacy training manual including: •Promotion of advocacy policies. •Training of Trainers (TOT).

Qualifications/special skills

Master's degree in international relations, political science, environmental science, public policy, natural sciences, or related fields is required. PHD is an asset. Minimum of 10 years of professional technical experience in the field of partnerships with Civil Society Groups is required. Knowledge of environment issues related to civil society groups in Saudi Arabia is desirable. Experience working in West Asia is desirable.

Languages

Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic is required.
