Result of Service- Field assessment reports for new construction/installations, for major repairs and for refurbishment - General and Particular Specifications for civil engineering works, bills of quantities, cost estimates for construction/refurbishment works - Minutes and follow-up actions on facilities construction, maintenance and repairs - Project progress reports including Gantt charts, project expenditure reports - Performance reports on Contractors' work - Terms of reference for construction/repair/refurbishment projects - Review reports of designs, layouts, bills of quantities, specifications, etc. prepared by other experts for purposes of civil engineering construction/repairs/maintenance -- Issuance, tracking and closure of civil engineering related work orders, calls and tickets - Closure of construction/maintenance/repair defect reports - Designs of civil engineering structures

Duties and Responsibilities The Civil Engineer reports to Engineering Unit and is responsible for the implementation of a broad variety of construction projects including security facilities, horizontal and vertical facilities that are required prior to the occupation of the premises by tenants. The assigned resource will also be the focal point for coordinating facilities maintenance and repair activities once facilities are handed over for occupation.

In particular, the Civil Engineer will be responsible for the following: - Plans and schedules implementation of engineering projects such as: construction, refurbishment, installation, and maintenance of roads, buildings and camps - Conducts field visits and prepares assessment of construction interventions: - Field visits to locations requiring specific technical assistance and, based on performed assessment, recommend best solution for project implementation - Preparation of Terms of References (ToR) for detailed design for reconstruction/ rehabilitation of structures where needed - Reviews and assesses technical design documents for construction interventions; - Review of technical documentation (geotechnical elaborates, existing and future lay out, Bill of Quantities (BoQ) with estimation of costs, technical description, design and specific drawings participate in the evaluation of bids process) for specific projects. - Review of technical drawings, specifications and Bill of Quantities, geotechnical elaborates - Assesses requirements for the installation, repairs and maintenance of engineering equipment and/or buildings and infrastructure. Based on the assessment, drafts technical or assessment reports; determines work requirements, and issues work orders - Inspects and reports on construction, installation and maintenance projects carried out either by contractors. - Applies and ensures adherence to safety programs related to the safe operation of engineering equipment and power tools. - Reads and interprets specifications and technical drawings for construction, installations and upgrade of infrastructure. - Verifies progress or completion of engineering projects and recommends to the Chief of of Engineering Unit for partial or final payments. - Ensure that technical documentation on construction site is maintained in accordance with relevant national laws and standards and contract for works. - Follows up on correction of defects in material or workmanship of contractor's work during the warranty period of the contracts. - Conduct routine site visits to the team sites, road/helipad construction project sites in the mission areas and provide engineering controls measures and advise on the quality of construction - Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills A minimum of Bachelor's Degree (4 years) in Civil Engineering or related to Engineering field from a recognized university is required. At least seven (07) years of relevant experience after the completion of degree course in the field of civil engineering and construction is required. At least 2 years of specific experience in roads or drainage and concrete construction supervision is desirable. Previous experience in UN peacekeeping or other field operations is desirable. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, MS Project and AUTOCAD is desirable. Familiarization with use of computers and office software packages and handling of web-based management systems is desirable.

Languages Fluency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of second official UN language is an added advantage
