This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Chief Technical Advisor (CTA) on Elections Support or Programme Manager, the UN Volunteer Civic Education Assistance will:

  • Provide research, clerical and logistical support to implementation of the relevant project activities;
  • Act as a liaison focal point on the project issues to the Government authorities, Embassy of Japan, other development partners;
  • Provide thematic inputs to the preparation of the project reports;
  • Contribute to the preparation of the Project Annual Work Plans and Procurement Plans;
  • Ensure knowledge sharing, coordination of relevant research, data collection and analysis, related to the project;
  • Assist the CTA and Programme Manager in preparation of general correspondences, memorandums, reports, budget information, schedules and other materials;
  • Contribute to the organization of internal/external meetings, related to Project de-sign/implementation/reporting;
  • Support overseeing and coordinating of working plans and travel schedules, quality of reports/ documents of International Experts/ Consultants;
  • Provide guidance/feedback to International Experts/Consultants on their deliverables;
  • Assist with facilitation of project evaluations;
  • Provide timely advice to the CTA and Programme Manager on programme and operations management issues;
  • Support the CTA and Programme Manager in proper office workflow and project implementation, including submission of memoranda and reports in accordance with UNDP rules and procedures;
  • Ensure regular project monitoring and evaluation.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

  • Advanced higher degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a relevant area, e.g. law, public administration or area related to democracy and governance; a first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with relevant training and/or professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree;

Required experience:

12 Months

Experience remark:

  • At least 1 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in social, cultural, civic education or other relevant programmes; experience working with libraries and/or ICT is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;
  • Experience in Eastern Europe or former USSR an asset

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Russian(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge

  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;

  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Sound security awareness;
  • Have affinity with or interest in UNDP Democracy and Governance mandate, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
