Job Overview:

The Citizenship Instructor will teach Citizenship Education Classes geared toward the educational needs of lawful permanent residents on their way to become U.S. Citizens. The Citizenship Instructor will be responsible for the class curriculum and materials, teaching classes including ESL and civics related content, assessing student progress using Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS) pre and post-tests, recruiting and enrolling students, and tracking student progress in accordance with project requirements. Will maintain student files, provide student data to project staff, and direct the activities of in-class volunteer aides and interns. The Citizenship Instructor will work in both IRC’s offices (El Cajon and City Heights).

Major Responsibilities:

- Teach classes in accordance with the donor contract, internal workplan, and program objectives; - Responsible for lesson planning and curriculum development as necessary; - Ensure pre/post tests are provided to all eligible students in a timely manner; - Attend USCIS and CASAS meetings; - Follow student enrollment procedures, including verifying the legal permanent resident (LPR) status of all students; - Record and track students’ gains via TOPSpro, Efforts-To-Outcomes (ETO), and note student progress in student files; - Responsible for growth and implementation of Civic Engagement programming; - Responsible for outreach and maintaining student enrollment; - Liaise with Volunteer Coordinator and direct the activities of in-class volunteer aides and interns. - Other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

- Undergraduate degree in education, English, or a related field; - Possess a TESOL degree/certification from state licensing agency, or must have substantial experience in TESOL instruction in a classroom setting with a structured curriculum; - Minimum of 2 years adult teaching experience, with minimum of 1 year teaching ESL or Citizenship; - Familiarity with offering standardized testing (i.e. CASAS Training); - Experience in writing curriculum; - Excellent written, verbal, computer, organizational and interpersonal communication skills are essential; - Knowledge of TOPSpro - WIOA Title II database is a plus;

- Ability to be flexible, work independently and prioritize within tight deadlines; - Self-directed and able to work well within a team;

- Proficiency in written and spoken English; some knowledge of one of the predominant languages of the local client base is a plus (Spanish, Arabic, Swahili, Dari/Pashto); - Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and partners in a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary environment.

Working Environment:

- Standard, professional office environment combined with traditional classroom environment; - Requires weekend and/or evening work; - Office hours are Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm.
