Stretching from Mongolia in the North to Tonga in the South, the UNICEF East Asia & Pacific Regional Office, based in Bangkok Thailand, covers one of the most diverse and dynamic areas in world.

The Child Protection section works to end violence against children at home, schools and online in the region, providing guidance, oversight and technical assistance to 14 Country Offices (COs) while leveraging regional partnerships and generating data and evidence, for child protection systems strengthening, violence prevention and strengthening access to justice for children.

Regional flagships include social service workforce strengthening, the roll out of Primero, and strengthening prevention and response to online exploitation and abuse.

How can you make a difference?

As Child Protection Specialist, you will lead the strategic, programmatic and advocacy efforts to strengthen prevention of violence against children, including online, and strengthen child protection systems in the East Asia and Pacific region.

You will be responsible for:

  • Technical and programmatic leadership for priority actions of the East Asia and Pacific Regional Office for child protection systems strengthening (CPSS), including social service workforce strengthening (SSWS), violence prevention, including child online protection (COP) and strengthening linkages between CPSS, violence against children (VAC) and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) - Technical support to country offices and quality assurance for country programme development in the areas of child protection system strengthening and violence prevention - Management of the regional programme on online child exploitation and abuse.

Your main duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  1. Leading regional engagement and regional standards setting and implementation, including with ASEAN, on child protection systems strengthening and violence prevention
  2. Providing technical support for the translation of global and regional standards and guidance on child protection systems strengthening, including the new system benchmarks, and violence prevention at national level
  3. Coordinating, engaging donors and providing technical support for the regional child online protection programme

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An Advanced university degree, preferably in the social sciences, law, or other relevant field. A minimum of eight years of professional work experience at national and/or international levels in child protection systems strengthening including social service workforce strengthening and/or prevention of violence against children.
  • Experience in programme management.
  • Experience in child online protection and knowledge of applying child rights principles in technology contexts is desirable.
  • Experience in the East Asia and Pacific Region is desirable.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language or local language of the countries in EAP region is considered as an asset.
