How can you make a difference?

You will support UNICEF effort to ensure that the rights of girls and women to live free from GBV are fulfilled. The focus of the program is to support Government, Civil Society Organizations and communities to prevent GBV by addressing its underlying conditions and drivers; to mitigate risk of GBV across humanitarian actors and to ensure that survivors have access to a comprehensive set of quality services. Our intervention is gradually transitioning from emergency to development hence there is a need to shift focus towards greater engagement with government on the institutional strengthening across mandated sectors both for prevention and response. Your expertise will support the process in addition to serving as primary focal point for all GBV related issues including support to multiple coordination forums e.g. GBV Sub-Cluster, RTAP, GBVIMS Taskforce, MARA (SCR 1960), and JTWG on CRSV; and liaison with the Government key ministries, other UN agencies on prioritizing and mainstreaming GBV prevention and response. You will also serve as UNICEF alternate PSEA national focal point role including UNICEF representation at the UN joint PSEA Taskforce coordination forum.

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have…

An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: international development, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law, or another relevant social science field. A first level university degree in combination with two (2) years additional qualifying experience (i.e. a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant work experience) may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of five years of professional experience in social development planning and management in Gender Based Violence related areas is required. Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset. Relevant experience in programme development in child protection related areas in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset. Experience in both development and humanitarian contexts is considered as an added advantage. Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language or local language of the duty station is considered as an asset (knowledge in Arabic is an added advantage).
