Position 1 – Dhaka, Social Service Workforce and Birth Registration

The Child Protection Officer (NOB) will report to the Child Protection Specialist (NOC) and will work to support social service workforce strengthening and birth registration programmes with the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Local Government Division accordingly. Under the supervision of the Child Protection Specialist, the Child Protection Officer will provide professional technical, operational, and administrative assistance throughout the programming process in line with Rolling Work Plan, Child Protection Programme Strategy Note and Country Programme Document to delivery of results. H/She will prepare, execute, manage, and implement a variety of technical and administrative programme tasks to facilitate programme development, implementation, programme progress monitoring, and reporting.

Position 2 – Dhaka, Harmful Practices and VAC

The Child Protection Officer (NOB) will be supporting the P4 Child Protection Specialist on developing a national strategy on ending violence against children and women (EVACW) and eliminating harmful practices (HP), including child marriage and child labor in Bangladesh. A strong focus of work will be given to empower children, including adolescent and families to boost the community based child protection system in close coordination with education and health sectors. The NoB will be supporting the HP pillar Lead to manage partnership with main counterparts such as Ministry of Children of Women Affairs, Ministry of Youth and Sport among others.

Position 3 – Cox’s Bazar, Justice and Social Service Workforce

The Child Protection Officer will report to the Child Protection Specialist in Cox’s Bazar and will be central to Pillar 1 of the Child Protection Programme focusing on Justice for Children and ensuring “a robust legal and policy framework designed to support the implementation of multisectoral coordinated plans of action to ensure access to justice and protection for children in contact with the law”. The NOB will bring a working knowledge of the Bangladesh justice system and the key stakeholders within it; and will be able to analyze where and how UNICEF’s comparative advantages can be best leveraged and applied to achieve results for children.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A university degree in one of the following fields is required: international development, social work, social welfare, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law, or another relevant social science field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in social development planning and management in child protection related areas is required. Relevant experience in programme development in child protection related areas in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
  • Experience in both development and humanitarian contexts and/or familiarity with emergency is an added advantage.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
