Overview

Support Child Protection and GBV initiatives in migration contexts.

You have:

  • Master degree or equivalent in a relevant area, e.g. Law, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Gender Studies or area related to Psychology.
  • At least 60 months of relevant professional work experience in child protection, migration, gender-based violence, or other relevant programmes.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish and English (Mandatory).
  • Experience in project development and management, as well as monitoring indicators and partners is an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Spanish and English.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel.
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines.

Contract

This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Child Protection in Emergencies Specialist (Migration) or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Child Protection Officer – Migration (GBV and PSEA) will:

  • Support with the mainstreaming of Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) within the work of UNICEF partners, including facilitating and developing trainings and materials
  • Support the implementation of the PSEA work derived from the Interagency PSEA in Shelters Coordination Group
  • Assist with the planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of activities related to children on the move
  • Strengthen and lead UNICEF’s work within Gender Based Violence (GBV) in emergencies, including migration (including internal displacement)
  • Support UNICEF partners with the implementation of their projects focusing on children on the move, as well as monitor the advancement of their indicators
  • Support with the monitoring of UNICEF partners’ activities within migration and psychosocial support to children on the move
  • Participate in relevant interagency humanitarian coordination meetings related to migration and children on the move
  • Participate in field missions to support in the case of migrant caravans and other emergencies and humanitarian situations
  • Participate in workshops and training activities organised for relevant actors by the protection section and provide logistical and substantive support as requested.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to field offices with the implementation of GBV, PSEA and MHPSS projects and activities
  • Support with preparing funding proposals and reports for donors, as well as with inputs for other types of national, regional or global reporting exercises.
  • Any additional tasks as deemed necessary

Qualifications/Requirements

Area of expertise details:

  • At least 5 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in child protection, migration, gender-based violence, or other relevant programmes;
  • experience working in the UN or other international development organization is an asset;
  • Experience in project development and management, as well as monitoring indicators and partners is an asset
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills in Spanish and in English;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;

  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Sound security awareness;
  • Have affinity with or interest in human rights, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
