This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Child Protection Specialist, the International UN Volunteer will carry out the following tasks:

  • Support phased scaling up UNICEF CP MHPSS prevention and response services (encompassing both humanitarian and non-humanitarian areas) for children and caregivers who are in need of mental health support;
  • Develop and support a system of MHPSS capacity development of child protection actors involved in MHPSS service delivery in both humanitarian and non-humanitarian areas;
  • Develop and support a MHPSS mainstreaming strategy in sectoral interventions beyond Protection/Child Protection – with a specific emphasis on Education, Health/Nutrition and WASH sectors;
  • Work in consultation with the Child Protection team to strengthen the referral mechanism for girls and women, and their children to available MHPSS services and programmes;

  • Work with CAAC/MRE team and partners to ensure MHPSS services are available and tailored to the needs of women and girls who were associated with Government and Non-Government Actors and who have suffered conflict related sexual violence, through the provision of individual psychosocial support;

  • Build and sustain close working partnerships with counterparts and national stakeholders through active sharing of information and knowledge on MHPSS prevention and responseincluding case management, to facilitate programme implementation and build capacity of stakeholders to achieve and sustain results on MHPSS;
  • Contribute to the development of new programme cooperation agreements with international and national NGOs/CBOs (including ethnic service providers), with the aim to expand MHPSS coverage;
  • Prepare donor proposals and resource mobilization materials on MHPSS response, support implementation, monitoring and donor reporting;
  • Participate in inter-agency meetings/events on CP and MHPSS, including MHPSS
  • Working Groups at the State and sub-national levels with the aim to represent, integrate and harmonize UNICEF’s position and strategies on MHPSS.

Educational additional comments

An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: international development, social work, public health, gender, human rights, psychology, or another relevant social science field.

A first level university degree in combination with two (2) years additional qualifying experience (i.e. a minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience) may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree

Experience remark

Minimum of three years professional experience in social development planning and management in child protection related areas, at the international level, is required

Language skills

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise details

Ability to develop and coordinate diversified MHPSS programmes that target IDPs/returnees and their host communities, survivors of violence, children and caregivers living in conflict-affected areas is considered a strong asset;

Experience in implementing MHPSS programmes for girls and boys affected by conflict is consi-dered a strong asset;

Relevant experience in programme development in MHPSS or child protection related areas in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset;

Experience in both development and humanitarian contexts is considered an added advantage.
