POSITION: CHILD PROTECTION OFFICER

WORK LOCATION: Bihac, Temporary Reception Center Borici

PURPOSE OF POSITION

World Vision BiH is responding to the refugee crisis in BiH by providing social services and support to children and adult refugees. World Vision BiH also intends to expand its work to include provision of child protection services. Child Protection Officer will support the provision of quality services for the UASC-24/7 component in TRC providing services to beneficiaries (unaccompanied and separated migrant children, children and families) and World Vision staff.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Implementation:

  • Providing support to UASC-24/7 Staff in process of registering children/minors
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments of separated and unaccompanied migrant children (UASCs) to help identify the urgent needs and possible solutions for children;
  • Exchanging with other UASC-24/7 Staff in order to approach each beneficiary in the most appropriate way;
  • Facilitate group and individual activities within UASC protection services;
  • Assist in guiding interviews with beneficiaries to gather resources that are child-focused, respectful and demonstrative of the realities and challenges that the refugees face.
  • Creating a trustful relationship with beneficiaries;
  • Guaranteeing the confidentiality, impartiality and neutrality;
  • Taking an active part in all necessary collateral activities linked to the beneficiaries’ health and social assistance, including information and advocacy.
  • Provides technical and logistical support to Safeguarding aspects of separated and unaccompanied migrant children in the camp (to keep track of the number and condition of children. to monitor the children in regards to clothing, hygiene and health status etc.)
  • Establishes collaborative relationships with partners in the camp
  • Works collaboratively with other project staff and participate in weekly staff meetings

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY FOR THE POSITION:

High school diploma with minimum 1 years working with children, preferably adolescents BA in relevant field would be considered as an asset Previous experience with migration context or projects would be considered as an asset. Professional experience in the field of social services or in organizations which deal with immigrants or poverty alleviation is an asset; Attuned to Child Protection issues especially in emergencies preferred Willingness to work in difficult environment Willingness to work as part of a multidisciplinary team; Fluent English written and spoken preferred

ADDITIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED AS A MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Work experience in CP area, in NGO sector is preferred.
  • Ability to compromise, negotiate and work well with others.
  • Ability to work and problem-solve in high-stress situations;
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize
  • Ability to perform well individually and as team member
  • Strong flexibility and adaptability
  • Openness to others
