The Child Protection National Officer reports to the Senior Child Protection Officer.

Responsibilities

Technical advice and guidance: - Provide technical advice and support to the Programmes staff in UNRWA HQ and Field Offices to increase the capacity of the Agency with respect to child protection to ensure that UNRWA services and programmes take into account child protection principles and integrate child protection interventions when relevant. - Systematically develops the capacity of UNRWA frontline staff in preventing, mitigating, and responding to Child Protection risks, including Child Safeguarding, by developing training plans, preparing guidance and training materials and facilitating training sessions. - Supports the planning and implementation of awareness-raising activities and communications to sensitize UNRWA staff on Child Safeguarding and Child Protection. - Provides support for child participation, community engagement and consultation efforts on child rights and child protection issues. - Supports the development, planning, implementation, and monitoring of Child Protection related projects and activities. - Ensures the timely, effective, and quality implementation of child protection focused project activities, in close coordination with relevant UNRWA Departments and five field offices. Coordination and reporting: - Oversee the collection and documentation of accurate and timely data on child rights and protection concerns and, where necessary, oversee the development of analysis on trends and patterns to support response strategies and advocacy. - Support relevant reporting processes within the Agency. - Contributes to establishing, and participates in, existing UNRWA coordination mechanisms on protection. - Develop close working relationships and strategic partnership with a range of child protection system actors including UN agencies and international and local NGOs.

Education

Work Experience

A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in the development/humanitarian sector in child protection in development/humanitarian action programming is required . An advanced university degree from an accredited educational institution in the fields of law, human rights, social sciences, sociology, development studies, international relations, or another field of relevance is required. Excellent command of spoken and written English is required. Experience with capacity building in the context of international organizations is desirable . Precedent experience working for Palestine Refugees is desirable . Precedent experience working with a UN Agency, and/or ICRC and other International or national protection organizations is desirable . Experience working on projects related to children and youth participation is desirable. Proven computer literacy, including demonstrated working knowledge of information management is desirable. Special Notice

Type of Contract: Limited Duration Contract (LDC), Band G. The Limited Duration Contract applies to external candidates and UNRWA internal candidates on LDC. Duration of Contract: 9 months - with the possibility of further extension, subject to the availability of funds, satisfactory performance and continuing need. Grade & Salary: LDC- Band G monthly basic salary ranges JOD (1538.40) Other Benefits: Other benefits include compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave pro-rated to the duration of the contract where less than one year, and family allowance (if applicable).
