How can you make a difference?

Purpose:

The Intern will be part of the Child Protection section and report to the Child Protection Specialist, who will assume the role of the Mentor during the assignment. Under the supervision and guidance of the Mentor, the intern will perform a variety of routine and specialized tasks for the Child Protection section, while contributing to the advancement of gender equality, girl’s empowerment and zero-tolerance towards gender-based violence activities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide support with the development of projects and activities related to gender-based violence (GBV) and gender equality;
  • Provide support in creating GBV Prevention and Response Guidelines and information/communication materials;
  • Support the Country Gender Team in its work to ensure the mainstreaming of gender into UNICEF programming;
  • Support the completion and launching of new knowledge products currently being developed including on: GBV, Gender Equality, Child protection available services and women’s empowerment;
  • Support the team in other tasks related to GBV and gender issues.

Internship package and working conditions:

Duration and stipend

This is a part-time assignment for a 2-month period, with a flexible schedule estimated at 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The intern will be paid a monthly stipend (70% of the net monthly salary of the GS level 3 step 1), prorated to the number of hours worked.

Leave

The intern may take up to 2.5 days per month off work for any reason, including for medical reasons. The stipend will be reduced for any absence beyond this quota. The quota is cumulative over the duration of the internship, but there will be no compensation or carry-over to another internship or appointment for unused leave days at the end of the internship.

Work location

The internship implies office-based work. UNICEF will ensure a suitable workplace and equipment within its premises in Chisinau.

Supervisory arrangements

The intern will benefit from professional coaching and mentoring from the Child Protection Specialist, who will regularly communicate with the incumbent to provide feedback, guidance and all other necessary assistance to support the intern’s efforts in achieving the objectives of the assignment. The intern will be granted access to UNICEF’s online learning platform and guidance will be provided in the identification of relevant learning activities.

Other considerations

Interns are required to demonstrate proof of medical insurance prior to the beginning of the internship. The office/ should ensure that the medical insurance is valid for the entire duration of the internship.

Interns are not staff members. Notwithstanding this status, interns shall observe all applicable rules, regulations, instructions and procedures and directives of UNICEF.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have

  • Completion of secondary education;
  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate or higher degree programme, or have graduated within the past two years.
  • Fluency in Romanian is required, knowledge of Russian is an asset;
  • Intermediate level of English;
  • Working knowledge of office practices such as filing, phones, computer operation, basic MS Office etc.;
  • Commitment to continuous learning: initiative and willingness to learn new skills;
  • Accountability and ability to operate in compliance with organizational rules and regulations.
