Overview

Monitor and support Child Protection activities in the community.

You have:

  • Education: 14th Grade or Diploma in community development, psychology, social work, sociology, and other social sciences relevant.
  • Certification or other recognized courses on Protection, Child Protection, Gender-based Violence, International Humanitarian Law or other relevant subject.
  • Basic knowledge of child protection principles and programming approaches.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience implementing protection or child protection programmes including ECD in humanitarian settings.
  • Experience in community mobilisation and conducting outreach activities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ethical sensitivity and ability to effectively communicate with children and their caregivers.
  • Knowledge of the local language (Dari). English skill is desirable.
  • Being in good health and physical conditions.
  • Commitment to and understanding of WV’s aims, values and principles.

Implementation of Project Activities

  • Undertake follow up/home visits and monitoring within agreed timeframe to gain insights into the situations of the child & family and the outcomes of the support.
  • Sensitize community leaders and members on CP case identification and safe referrals including life-threatening issues that need to be prioritized for immediate response.
  • Conduct timely monitoring from CFS & PSS activities in target locations
  • Establish a good working relation with community shuras and key actors in the project areas to ensure access and regular contact with children and families.
  • Collaborate and communicate closely with other staff and project teams ensuring smooth coordination, information sharing and referrals.
  • Attend internal and external training on CP and related topics to enhance knowledge on case management and other CP programming approaches.
  • Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and ensure safeguarding concerns are reported and followed up.
  • Conducts community and households’ assessments through field visits in villages, camps and other informal settlements with persons of concern within the community and identifies individuals at risk and humanitarian needs according to monthly work plan.
  • Under the guidance of the education and Protection Officer, facilitate Focus Group Discussions amongst Persons of Concern in the field on selected protection concerns.
  • Offers general information to the PoCs on services available
  • Refer cases of vulnerable people to the education and Protection Officers for further follow up
  • Report to the education and Protection Officer of any immediate protection concerns or protection needs witnessed in the field.
  • Assist caseworkers in identification of the following cases: eviction, forced displacement, detention, confiscation/missing / damaged civil documentation issues, Housing Land and Properties issues, child protection concerns, GBV concerns, etc.
  • Works with Protection Staff in order to map service networks for referral
  • Works to strengthen WVA’s relationship with community leaders in order to maintain good access to POCs
  • Conduct additional other duties assigned by supervisors in support of the protection programme.

To be aware and prepared to implement WV Afghanistan Humanitarian and Emergency Affairs plan under the context of fragile interventions

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE

Required Education, training, license, registration, and/or

Certification

  • 14th Grade or Diploma in community development, psychology, social work, sociology, and other social sciences relevant.
  • Certification or other recognized courses on Protection, Child Protection, Gender-based Violence, International Humanitarian Law or other relevant subject
  • Basic knowledge of child protection principles and programming approaches
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ethical sensitivity and ability to effectively communicate with children and their caregivers
  • Knowledge and awareness of inter-agency Child Protection in Humanitarian Action tools, guidelines and other resources is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills – self-motivated individuals, able to take initiative and propose solutions, resilient, positive, and able to work independently

Required Professional Experience

Minimum 1 year of experience implementing protection or child protection programmes including ECD in humanitarian settings Experience in community mobilisation and conducting outreach activities Experience in implementing programme with case management and psychosocial support components is desirable Experience and willingness in conducting assessments and regular home visits in the field/remote areas particularly in engaging families and communities to address sensitive issues Worked in a team setting and able to collaborate effectively with other stakeholders Must have basic level computer skills- Word –Excel Commitment to and understanding of WV’s aims, values and principles

Required Language(s)

Knowledge of the local language (Dari). English skill is desirable.

Required travel and/or work environment accommodations

The position is based in Herat with frequent travel to the project districts and communities.

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Prior experience in working with INGO is preferred
  • Prior experience working as a Case Worker/Social Worker/ECD programming
  • Prior experience in fragile contexts and humanitarian response.
