This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Candidate age: between 18 and 29 throughout the entire duration of their assignment. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Child Protection Officer based in Bertoua zone office, the UN Youth Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  1. Programme Implementation and Management:
  • Assist in the implementation of Child Protection programme activities in the Adamawa and East regions;
  • Assist in the strengthening of local CSO and childcare institutions capacities to prevent and protect children from violence, abuse and exploitation, as well as from harmful traditional practice;
  • Participate in all meetings concerning Child Protection with Government and NGO partners;
  • Assist in the preparation and participate in monthly regional child protection coordination meetings;
  • Assist/conduct regular monthly field monitoring visits to project sites.
  1. Documentation and Reporting
  • Assist in child protection (emergency and development) projects’ monitoring through data collection in targeted communities during field visits.
  • Contribute to collect data/findings for documentation of best practices and lessons learned especially for the positive parenting initiatives, child protection community-based mechanisms;
  • Assist in documenting projects’ implementation and in developing human interest stories for donor visibility;
  • Assist the programme officer in compiling monthly and quarterly reports and in feeding in inputs for donor reporting and annual reports;
  • Participates in refugees, IDPs and Host Communities child protection needs assessment missions and reporting.
  1. Innovation and Knowledge Management
  • Contributes to apply/introduce innovative approaches and good practice to build the capacity of partners and stakeholders and to support the implementation, monitoring and delivery of concrete and sustainable program results.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Technical/Vocational diploma

Education - Additional Comments:

A university degree in social science (Psychology, sociology, Social Work, Law or related social science field is required).

Required experience:

12 Months

Experience remark:

Minimum 1 year of progressively responsible relevant experience in the field of child protection or

human rights;

• Knowledge in the area of child protection required, knowledge in the field of GBV is an asset;

• Experience in capacity building and partnership coordination will be an advantage;

• Basic knowledge in data collection and management and statistics Software for social science.

Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Working Knowledge
  • French(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
