This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Child Protection Specialist or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Child Protection will:

Support to programme development and planning

  • Prepare technical reports and inputs for programme preparation and documentation, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and relevancy of information.
  • Provide technical support by executing a variety of technical programme activities,
  • Preparing materials and documentations, and complying with organizational processes and management systems, to support programme planning and implementation.

  • Prepare required documentations and materials to facilitate the programme review

Programme monitoring and delivery of results.

  • Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues and partners to collect, analyze and share information on implementation issues, suggest solutions on routine programme implementation.
  • Keep record of reports and assessments for easy reference and/or to capture and institutionalize lessons learned.
  • Participate in programme reviews with the government and other counterparts and prepare minutes for follow up action.
  • Report on issues identified to ensure timely resolution by management and stakeholders. Follow up on unresolved issues to ensure resolution.
  • Prepare inputs for programme and donor reporting.
  • Support the research and situation analysis developed by the section in technical assistance to the stakeholders and couterparts.

Technical and operational support to programme implementation

  • Undertake field visits, support the implementation activities, and collect and share reports with partners and stakeholders.
  • Assess progress and refer to relevant officials for resolution.
  • Report on critical issues, bottlenecks and potential problems for timely action to achieve results.

Networking and partnership building

  • Build and sustain close working partnerships with government counterparts and national stakeholders through active sharing of information and knowledge to facilitate programme implementation and build capacity of stakeholders to achieve and sustain results on child protection.
  • Draft communication and information materials for CO programme advocacy to promote awareness, establish partnership/alliances.

  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area, e.g. human rights, psychology, sociology, law, international relation, or other relevant social science field, or area related to child protection;

Required experience:

24 Months

Experience remark:

At least 2 year of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in Child Protection, social services and social and human development related areas.

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Tetum(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Portuguese(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge
