Overview

Lead an USAID-funded project to drive sustainable agriculture and economic growth in Bangladesh.

You have:

  • Advanced degree in agricultural sciences, business administration, international development, or a related field (Master’s degree or higher preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years of senior leadership experience managing agriculture, market systems development, or climate-resilient livelihood programs.
  • USAID experience required with a preference for candidates with previous COP or DCOP experience on USAID funded projects.
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing strategies to engage women, youth, and marginalized groups in agriculture and value chains.
  • Demonstrated success in building partnerships with government agencies and private sector entities.
  • Familiarity with iterative learning and the USAID Collaborating, Learning, and Adapting (CLA) framework.
  • Experience in Bangladesh strongly preferred, alternative or additional experience South Asia will be considered relevant.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
  • Expertise in coalition-building with diverse stakeholders, including private sector actors.
  • Comprehensive understanding of USAID financial and contractual regulations.
  • Proficiency in project monitoring and evaluation, including qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
  • Fluency in English required; proficiency in Bangla highly preferred.

Established in Bangladesh in 1983, iDE is the longest-standing NGO specializing in market systems in the country. Our diverse portfolio includes programs in agricultural markets, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), renewable energy, and climate-smart technologies.

We are seeking an experienced Chief of Party (CoP) to lead an anticipated $25-50M USAID-funded project focused on inclusive and sustainable agriculture-led economic growth in Sylhet Division, Bangladesh. This 5-year initiative aims to strengthen agricultural systems, improve nutrition, and enhance resilience in the region.

The Chief of Party will oversee all aspects of project implementation, providing strategic leadership, technical direction, and operational management. This individual will establish and maintain strong partnerships with stakeholders across the public and private sectors to ensure sustainable, cross-sectoral, and evidence-based approaches.

This position is contingent upon funding approval. Qualified Bangladeshi professionals are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership and Coordination

  • Act as the primary liaison to USAID, government agencies, private sector partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitate collaboration with smallholder farmers, industry groups, research institutions, and development partners to maximize project impact.

Technical Oversight

  • Achieve project objectives through technical direction and visionary leadership within a complex and evolving environment
  • Lead the design and execution of strategies to enhance productivity in agriculture, livestock, and aquaculture, increasing income and improving nutrition outcomes.
  • Oversee capacity-building initiatives for producers, processors, government agencies, academic institutions, and private sector actors to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Utilize adaptive management approaches to monitor, evaluate, and refine project activities, scaling successful interventions and course-correcting where necessary.

Operational Management

  • Provide high-level oversight for administrative functions, including financial management, HR, procurement, and compliance with donor and iDE policies. Ultimately responsible for management of financial and administrative aspects of the project, such as procurement, sub-contracts, accounting, IT, M&E, logistics, human resources, transportation, administration, and security coordination.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships and coordinate with a consortium of local partners.
  • Lead and manage a diverse team of technical experts and consultants, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and results.
  • Communicate progress and impact to iDE headquarters and USAID through regular updates and formal reports.

Stakeholder Engagement and Visibility

  • Develop and disseminate annual reports, success stories, and communication materials to showcase project achievements and impact.
  • Represent- the Activity at high-level forums and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.
