The continued population growth combined with a high dependency ratio increases the investments required to meet the Sustainable Development Goals. Indeed, the country’s progress is too slow to meet most of the Sustainable Development Goal targets, and, in some cases, indicators are worsening. Specific challenges include escalating insecurity in parts of the country, a protracted crisis continuing in the North-East of the country, and the continuing uneven socio-economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
