Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the Meetings Servicing Unit, Meetings Support Section, Meetings and Publishing Division, Department for General Assembly and Conference Management, New York. The incumbent will report to the Chief of the Section.

Responsibilities Under the direction of the Chief, Meetings Support Section, the incumbent will perform the following functions:

- Takes the lead to plan, coordinate and implement all conference servicing requirements for meetings held at Headquarters as well as those held at other locations by intergovernmental organs as mandated.

- Assumes responsibility for human resources and administrative matters concerning the Unit including supervision of the work of the staff; preparation of the annual work plan of the Unit; training of new and short-term staff; evaluation of staff performance; and carrying out other programmatic and administrative tasks.

- Develops methodologies and procedures to improve and expedite the availability, accessibility and sustainability of service requirements, including official documentation.

- Provides expert guidance to coordination meetings, interdepartmental task forces, planning and working groups preparing for special conferences, and matters related to servicing of meetings.

- Directs quality control through all the phases of physical and meeting services. Advises and liaises with counterparts providing conference services, including (but not limited to) facilities, broadcast support, and interpretation.

- Operates the Accessibility Centre at Headquarters, which ensures, assists and enables the participation of persons with audio, visual and mobility impairments in intergovernmental processes and meetings at the United Nations.

- Performs other duties as required.

Competencies Professionalism: Knowledge of conference-servicing policies, practices and procedures, and of guidelines and rules on meetings and documentation. Knowledge of the entitlements and working methods of charter bodies and subsidiaries which are included in the calendar of conferences and meetings at Headquarters. Ability to compile and analyze statistics and draft analytical reports, to train and supervise staff and participate fully in interdepartmental meetings coordination meetings with officials at senior levels in the Secretariat and Missions to the UN. Shows pride in work and in achievements; demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter; is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results; Takes responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives and ensuring the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work.

Education Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in public administration, international business, management or related area. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in conference servicing, event management or a related field at the international level, including supervision of teams, is required. Experience in the United Nations system or similar intergovernmental organization is desirable. Experience and proficiency in software applications and technology developed for conference facilities is an advantage.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, thorough knowledge of English is required. Proficiency in another official language is desirable.
