Chief Health Protection & Promotion reports to the Director of Health, D-2.

Responsibilities- Plans, develops, directs and evaluates UNRWA’s health protection and promotion programme and ensures that its strategies, plans and programmes are in line with World Health Organization (WHO) principles and are implemented effectively and efficiently. This programme includes:

(i) Integrated maternal health and family planning services; (ii) Child health care services; (iii) School health services and adolescent health; (iv) Nutritional surveillance and support; (v) Gender mainstreaming and GBV (vi) Disability inclusion

- Provides technical guidance within the department and to the Fields as required on the design and conduct of health services research to assess health status and evaluate the relevance and effectiveness of the various programme components;

- Prepares and supervises the implementation of training programmes for development of health staff in the department and in the Fields, with the objective of enhancing the capabilities and skills of programme managers and other staff;

- Maintains close liaison with the concerned public health departments of the host authorities in the area of operations, UN Agencies and non-governmental organizations, for coordination of common programmes;

Education- A university degree from an accredited educational institution in Medicine; - An Advanced degree from an accredited educational institution in public Health

Work Experience- At least 10 years of progressively responsible and relevant experience post acquiring the degrees are required

- Of which five years should have been at a senior, supervisory level related to planning, development and administration of health programmes are required

- Knowledge of UN and UNRWA rules and regulations is desirable.

- Knowledge of Middle Eastern cultures is desirable.

Languages- Excellent command of spoken and written English and Arabic.

Contract Type: Fixed Term Appointment for 3 years; including 1 year probation period, with the possibility of further extension, subject to the availability of funds, satisfactory performance, and continuing need. Grade and Salary, Grade HL11 Monthly basic salary JD 2277.00 plus Special Occupational Allowance (SOA) of 25% of the basic salary (SOA may change from time to time). Other benefits: Other benefits include monthly Provident Fund contribution (15.2% of basic salary paid by the Agency), compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, and dependency allowance (if applicable).

The incumbent of the post will be required to travel throughout the Agency's area of operations in the Middle East.
