  • Advanced university degree related to international relations, environment, climate change, development or a related field, is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience is required
  • Knowledge of climate change and climate-related development issues is required, especially at subnational level
  • Experience in an international environment is required
  • Knowledge of the waste sector and related super pollutant action is required
  • Experience in project management and monitoring & evaluation is desirable
  • Experience in communication and content development is desirable
  • Fluency in English & French is required. Knowledge of an additional UN language is an asset.

Result of Service

The CCAC Waste Specialist is being recruited to support the coordination of the Waste Hub, including the LOW-Methane Partnership. The CCAC Waste Specialist’s role includes support for: 1) outreach to State and Non-State Partners to coordinate participation in the CCAC Waste Hub, including the LOW-Methane partnership and creating opportunities for peer-to-peer and South-South exchange through virtual and in-person meetings; 2) project management of CCAC-funded projects in the waste sector; 3) support for finance mobilization for scale up, such as managing relationships with financing partners and seeking matchmaking between prepared projects with appropriate financing channels; and 4) ad-hoc support to the CCAC Secretariat and its role in providing secretariat services to the Global Methane Pledge.

Duties and Responsibilities

The UNEP-convened Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) is a partnership of governments, intergovernmental organizations, and representatives of the private sector, the environmental community, and other members of civil society. The CCAC is the only international initiative working on integrated climate and clean air solutions to reduce the rate of near-term warming. It focuses on fast action to reduce emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) including methane, black carbon, HFCs and tropospheric ozone. More information about the CCAC is here: www.ccacoalition.org As of October 2023, the same team is providing secretariat services to the Global Methane Pledge. More information about the Global Methane Pledge is here: www.globalmethanepledge.org The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) hosts the Secretariat at the Economy Division in Paris. The CCAC Secretariat is seeking a Waste Specialist to coordinate outreach to State and Non-State Partners in the CCAC Waste Hub including the LOW-Methane Partnership; support project management of waste-related CCAC-funded projects; scale up financial support for super pollutant mitigation in the waste sector; and support activities of the CCAC Secretariat. Objectives / Responsibilities 1. Coordinate the State and Non-State partners of the CCAC Waste Hub, ensure smooth information flows, organize meetings and agendas. Engage the CCAC Waste Hub leadership and leverage related resources via CCAC-funded projects, CCAC Hub meetings, the CCAC Annual Meeting and related meetings. 2. Manage CCAC-funded projects related to the waste sector, including developing implementation plans, tracking progress, and ensuring quality control over all related deliverables. 3. Support finance mobilization for scale up, such as managing relationships with financing partners and seeking matchmaking between prepared projects with appropriate financing channels 4. Support the CCAC Secretariat and its role in providing secretariat services to the Global Methane Pledge.
