You have:

  • An advanced university degree is required in the field of environmental management, behavioral sciences, and other related fields.
  • At least 2 years of experience in short-lived climate pollutants is required.
  • Proficiency in research, writing policy briefs, case studies, key messages, implementation plans, and sectoral strategies and guidance is required.
  • Experience in country and stakeholder engagement is required.
  • Experience in organizing events is required.
  • Fluency in English (written and oral) is required. Knowledge of Turkish or an additional UN language is an asset.

Result of Service

The Junior Super Pollutant Specialist is expected to: • facilitate active engagement of CCAC partners and industry in the Cooling Hub as well as lead and engage in other networks such as the Cool Coalition and Regional Networks of Ozone Officers • ensure the successful implementation of CCAC projects in collaboration with the Programme Management Officer (P3) that oversee the projects • have supported the topics selection for the TEAP and provided learnings from Montreal Protocol TEAP that can be adopted in the CCAC TEAP • organize meetings with relevant partners to deliver a strategy on the use of carbon finance in super pollutant mitigation • support engagement with COP31 Presidency and organize events at COP31 and MOP38

Duties and Responsibilities

The UNEP-convened Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) is a partnership of governments, intergovernmental organizations, and representatives of the private sector, the environmental community, and other members of civil society. The CCAC is the only international initiative working on integrated climate and clean air solutions to reduce the rate of near-term warming. It focuses on fast action to reduce emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) including methane, black carbon, HFCs and tropospheric ozone. More information about the CCAC is here: www.ccacoalition.org. As of October 2023, the same team is providing secretariat services to the Global Methane Pledge. More information about the Global Methane Pledge is here: www.globalmethanepledge.org The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) hosts the Secretariat at the Industry & Economy Division in Paris. The CCAC Secretariat is seeking a Junior Super Pollutant Specialist to • support coordination and engagement in the cooling sector • support the management of 3-5 projects in cooling, • provide support to the CCAC TEAP Manager • help develop a strategy on the use of carbon finance in super pollutant mitigation • help coordinate CCAC engagement at 31st Conference of the Parties in Antalya, Turkey and at the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Kigali Amendment at the 38th Meeting of the Parties in Kigali, Rwanda.
