Job Description

Background/IRC Summary: The IRC has been present in Nigeria since 2012 when the organization responded to flooding in Kogi state. In February 2014 the IRC moved into Adamawa State in NE Nigeria to provide humanitarian interventions through a multi-sectoral, integrated approach for conflict affected populations. IRC Nigeria now operates a country office in Abuja and field offices in Mubi and Yola of Adamawa State, Maiduguri, Monguno, Gwoza and Bama of Borno State and Damaturu of Yobe State. Currently, IRC Nigeria implements programs primary health care, nutrition, environmental health, women’s protection and empowerment, protection, child protection, education, food security & livelihoods.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include,

- The safe and efficient transportation of IRC personnel. - The safe and efficient transportation of IRC materials - The care and maintenance of IRC vehicles and accessories - Comply with IRC fleet and driving policies and standards. - Representation of IRC in a professional manner.

Key Competencies

- No road safety-related fines or convictions - Thorough knowledge of road rules and regulations - Safe/Defensive driving skills. - Skills in routine vehicle maintenance and minor repair - Knowledge (or ability to quickly learn) of HF, VHF, and satellite communications equipment. - Team spirit and problem-solving abilities. - Able to carry out limited, un-supervised tasks. - Display an attitude and behavior that reflects well on both themselves and the IRC.

Expected Deliverables

- Strict adherence to the IRC’s vehicle policies and procedures, including the use of seatbelts by all passengers. - Daily and pre-long distance vehicle checks. Accurate upkeep of the vehicle’s log sheet. - Maintaining the vehicle clean, fueled and mechanically sound. - Inspecting and maintaining vehicle accessories.

Key Working Relationships:

Position Reports to: Head Driver

Position directly supervises: None.

Indirect Reporting: Logistics Officer.

Qualifications

**Education****: Secondary School leaving Certificate

Work Experience *: Minimum of 1 year experience as a professional driver preferably with an INGO.*

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

- Pay attention to details. - problem solving - Excellent driving skills. - Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel etc.)

Language Skills: Speak and write English language clearly

Certificates or Licenses: Valid National drivers' license

Working Environment : This position is in Abuja.
