ABOUT WFP

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability, and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters, and the impact of climate change. Food assistance extends well beyond the traditional view of “food aid” as transfers of food commodities to hungry people.

It seeks not only to save lives and protect livelihoods in the short term but also to combat the root causes of hunger in the medium and long term for a world with zero hunger.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

These jobs are found in Country Offices (COs), Regional Bureaux (RBs), and Headquarters (HQ). The Job holders report to a Head of the Unit, Chief or Information Technology Officer, or the designate.

At this level, job holders are expected to take responsibility for the completion of a range of processes and activities requiring the interpretation of standard guidelines/practices. Job holders can recommend a course of action to staff at various levels and may allocate tasks to other staff.

The objective of a country-level Logistics Cluster is to ensure that timely, coherent, and effective logistics support to humanitarian aid/relief operations is possible (within funding and security constraints). WFP as the lead agency of the Logistics Cluster is accountable for working in partnership with humanitarian stakeholders to deliver a strategic response, based on operational gaps (as per the IASC Guidelines on Cluster Coordination at the Country Level). Within each country-level Logistics Cluster Lead Agency is a Logistics Cluster Coordinator (as per the IASC Generic Terms of Reference for Sector Leads at the Country Level), who is responsible for leading and facilitating this process. Based on the needs identified and expressed by the humanitarian community, the Cluster will assume a coordination and information management role, while attempting to facilitate common services where required to maximize the use of available resources in-country, provide support and advocacy surrounding customs clearance and government liaison, and establish a more coordinated and cost-effective operational approach.
