- WHO Bangladesh works with the Government of Bangladesh, development partners, academias, healthcare providers, communities, and civil society organizations to improve the nutrition, health and well-being of women, infants, and children across the country. Breastfeeding is one of the most effective interventions for ensuring child survival, healthy growth and development, and improved maternal health.

These include: • Initiation of breastfeeding within the first hour of birth. • Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life. • Continued breastfeeding up to two years of age and beyond alongside appropriate homemade complementary feeding. • Strengthening support systems for mothers through families, communities, workplaces, and healthcare services. • Increasing public awareness of the health, nutritional, developmental, economic, and environmental benefits of breastfeeding. • Creating an enabling environment that protects breastfeeding and reduces the influence of inappropriate marketing of breastmilk substitutes. • Supporting equitable access to accurate breastfeeding information and skilled breastfeeding counseling for all mothers and caregivers including emergency settings.
