UNICEF works on long-term development programmes and supports the government during the onset of emergencies in the following areas: Education; Health; Nutrition; Disaster Risk Reduction; Adolescent Development; Emergency Response; Peacebuilding; Social Policy; Child Protection; and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene.

We also provide supply and logistical support in the above areas.

How can you make a difference?

Purpose of the engagement

UNICEF is looking for professionals who are interested to be engaged for its emergency related work to provide programmatic and operational support and technical inputs to address the need for the overall emergency response in the country.

Sourcing

Applications of the interested candidates will go through a review process to assess their qualifications and suitability by the respective programme and operations sections to be included in the roster. This roster will be used for engaging the consultants as required in the onset of an emergency based on their availability.

Note that inclusion in this roster does not commit UNICEF to an employer-employee agreement or relationship between the organization and the consultant. Consultants will be contacted on an on-call basis for the required emergency response as determined by UNICEF.

Task and Responsibilities:

Under the close supervision and guidance of the section supervisor, a Terms of reference (TOR) will be prepared and shared with the consultant for the emergency services required.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Advance university degree* in relevant fields: WASH, Education, Social Policy Child Protection, Health, Nutrition and/or other relevant fields.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional work experience in emergency at the national and international levels in programme/project development, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and administration.
  • Specialized training in emergency response management will be an asset.
  • Previous record and experience of working with UNICEF or UN is a plus.
  • Fluency in English and local language of the duty station is essential.

*A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 3 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.

Please indicate your availability from 01 August 2022 to 31 December 2024, and include any portfolio of professional work (e.g., links to online portals where your work is published) as applicable.

Remarks:

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and advance to the next stage of the selection process.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is responsible to ensure that they are covered by health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status including at least one (1) booster dose against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment.
