**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Education Sector (ED) Duty Station: Harare Job Family: Computer Sciences / Information Technologies Type of contract : Non Staff Duration of contract : From 7 to 11 months Recruitment open to : External candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 20-02-2023 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- The UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa (ROSA), Education for Health and Well-being (EHW) unit, is seeking a technically proficient individual or firm to manage its Amazon Web Server (AWS) infrastructure. The server currently hosts two websites and three mobile applications, requiring comprehensive maintenance and management to ensure optimal performance and security. Long Description ---------------- The selected individual or firm will perform the following tasks: • AWS Management: Manage Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure, including EC2 instances, RDS databases, and other AWS components. • Software Updates: Regularly update the operating system, web server software, and any other software used on the AWS instances to ensure security and stability. • Backups: Create and maintain regular backups of all data and configurations stored in AWS to minimize the risk of data loss in the event of a disaster. • Security: Implement security measures to prevent unauthorized access to the AWS infrastructure and data. • Monitoring: Monitor AWS resource utilization and performance using monitoring tools to ensure that the infrastructure is functioning correctly and efficiently. • Auto-Scaling: Implement auto-scaling groups to ensure that the AWS infrastructure can dynamically scale based on demand. • Cost Optimization: Regularly monitor and optimize AWS costs, including monitoring and modifying EC2 instance types, RDS instance types, and other AWS services. • Disaster Recovery Planning: Develop and implement a disaster recovery plan using AWS services such as Amazon S3 and Amazon RDS Snapshots to ensure that the infrastructure can be quickly restored in the event of a disaster. • Performance Tuning: Regularly tune the AWS infrastructure for optimal performance, including optimizing database configurations, network settings, and AWS service configurations. • Monthly Server Fees: Paying the monthly server fees for the AWS infrastructure (these fees will be reimbursed by UNESCO upon presentation of payment receipts). • Other Digital Services’ Fees: Payment for other digital services upon request, including Hootsuite, Wix, Landbot, Gupshup, Gtranslate.io, DigitalOcean, and others, for the purpose of managing the UNESCOs web infrastructure. These fees will be reimbursed by UNESCO upon presentation of payment receipts. Long Description ---------------- Timeline and Duration of Consultancy • The consultancy will be for 10 months from March - December 2023 Long Description ---------------- UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa will manage the consultancy and provide logistical support. **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) Professionalism (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- Interested individuals or firms are expected to meet or exceed the following expertise and qualifications: Individual *Mandatory* - Minimum three years’ experience in managing AWS infrastructure and associated services - Strong knowledge of web server software, operating systems, and security best practices - Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, and RDS - Ability to optimize AWS resources for cost and performance - Familiarity with disaster recovery planning and implementation - Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills Firm/Entity *Mandatory* - Proven experience in managing AWS infrastructure for multiple clients - A team of experienced AWS specialists with relevant certifications - Strong track record of delivering secure and highly available AWS solutions - Knowledge of industry best practices for AWS security, performance, and cost optimization - Ability to provide 24x7 support and maintenance services - A clear understanding of project management methodologies and experience in delivering projects on-time and within budget - Valid business registration certificate and a current bank confirmation letter. **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- • It is desirable for the individual or firm to have worked in the past on a project/assignment with the United Nations system **SELECTION AND RECRUITMENT PROCESS** ------------------------------------- The consultant will be selected following a competitive bidding process.
