ABOUT WFP

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency fighting hunger whose mission is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetime. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need. WFP reaches more than 80 million people every day - delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with smallholder farmers, communities and governments to improve nutrition and build resilience.

The WFP Regional Bureau for Eastern Africa (RBN) is based in Nairobi and provides strategic direction, technical guidance, resource mobilization, and management support to WFP operations and activities in ten countries: Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, and Uganda.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The RBN Partnership and Innovation Team provides leadership, expertise and support to WFP’s regional and country-level positioning, partnering, innovation and resourcing efforts in Eastern Africa.

As conflict, climate change, covid and cost drive up the number of hungry people in Eastern Africa, finding innovative solutions to the complex humanitarian & development challenges in the region is essential, now perhaps more than ever. WFP Regional Bureau for Eastern Africa’s Innovation Hub was set-up two years ago to disrupt hunger in the region. Its main goals are to a) upscale & support local innovation ecosystems, b) support WFP country offices to test new products and innovations; and c) facilitate best practices & knowledge sharing. Hosted with the regional partnership team, the WFP Innovation Hub for Eastern Africa identifies, supports and scales high potential solutions to hunger worldwide. It supports entrepreneurs (WFP innovators or external startups, NGOs, companies) to take their innovations to the next level – either getting ideas to the first proof of concept or already implemented solutions to the next scale-up.

The Regional Bureau Nairobi (RBN) oversees and supports some of the most innovative operations of the World Food Programme (WFP) and with its partnership lab drives engagement with a wide range of stakeholder.

We need you to reach the next level! Expect a high pace environment, a challenging context, an engagement with a wide range of stakeholders and a driven, dedicated team!
