Job Title: Business Relationship Manager

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The WFP Technology Division (TEC) is the nervous system of WFP, connecting staff with each other and with our beneficiaries, donors and partners. Running all vital IT systems, TEC serves as the main driver for continuity of operations, efficiency gains and innovations that empower staff globally to effectively implement the Strategic Plan. Within TEC, the Business Relationship Management (BRM) team plays a key role in the digital transformation of WFP by partnering with all parts of the organization to identify gaps, set priorities, improve user experience, and scale up digital approaches that enhance business efficiency and operational impact. Within this context, the Consultant will work within the TEC Business Relationship Management (BRM) team, supporting a thematic group of WFP business teams to plan and invest in technology, manage, and leverage those investments, while working with other TEC teams to ensure a coordinated approach.

The BRM Consultant will support the engagement with the Management Department (MD), to help shape the demand for technology and the use of data for decision making by the business teams of the Risk Management Division (RMD), the Management Services Division (MSD), and the Technology Division (TEC). The BRM Consultant, while having a good understanding of the management services and risk management structure and business processes, will build trust through relationships with operational level contacts to ensure that essential projects are prioritized and scheduled, to ensure that essential projects are:

  • defined as per the divisions’ value proposition
  • prioritized within the division and across portfolios to ensure
  • complementarities
  • coordinated with the different branches within TEC

The Consultant will work under the general supervision and guidance of the Senior Management Department Business Relationship Manager, in close collaboration with all the other BRMs at Headquarters and Regional Bureaux level.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide support to the Senior BEM in the Management Department business area.
  • Develop an understanding of evolving business models, regardless of technology, helping to draft and update relevant Business Roadmaps.
  • Understand new technology trends, forecast future requirements and help to guide business strategies to include a digital dimension.
  • Keep updated the overview of technology these teams are using (portfolio healthcheck), and how effective/fit for purpose it is, using the Portfolio Health check template.
  • Support the use of these two documents to shape legitimate demand and prioritise for scheduling.
  • Support the preparation of the necessary documentation related to the IT delivery process
  • Keep good records of artefacts and activities related to the division’s engagement with TEC
  • Support the preparation of the portfolio meetings and Director level meetings.
  • Engage and participate in portfolio meetings, following up on outstanding issues, and flagging concerns as they arise.
  • Liaise with colleagues in the TEC division on projects and risks related to portfolios.
  • Work with the other BEMS preparing periodic updates on projects and issues for TEC management.
  • Follow the technology development taking place outside of the TEC division in these teams to ensure all is registered and abiding by the framework for software development, support and maintenance.
  • Thoroughly understand existing TEC solutions and articulate their value to these business areas. Understand and communicate relevant new products, features and capabilities.
  • Liaise with other Business Engagement Managers in Regional Bureaus and in Headquarters to ensure an integrated, coherent approach to the technology / data used for assigned portfolios.
  • Include content from assigned portfolios in key TEC events.
  • Other duties as required.

DELIVERABLES:

  • Business Roadmaps, portfolio healthcheck are up to date and approved with the business across portfolio.
  • Portfolio meeting are scheduled
  • Supported portfolio meetings as needed.
  • Effectively facilitated inputs for and follow ups form the Tec Assessment process
  • IT Solution Registry is updated with relevant information across portfolio.
  • Ensured that key, legitimate development is scheduled for assigned portfolio.
  • Seen as a collaborative team member.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED****:

Education:

  • University degree in Economics, Business Management, Technology or another relevant field.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of relevant working experience, for example experience in project management, partnering/building collaborations, business strategy and technology planning.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Intermediate knowledge of standard enterprise level technology. Excellent communicator and relationship builder. Good analytical skills, ability to prioritize and drive sound business decisions.

Language:

  • Fluency in oral and written English with an intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is desirable.
