In 2019 UNICEF launched the Business for Result (B4R) global organizational initiative to promote major collaboration with/on the private sector, which is recognized as a key stakeholder and partner to accelerate results for children and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). This framework was built on UNICEF’s long experience working with the business sector that has yielded concrete results by leveraging policies and practices on business conduct (child rights and business), and mobilizing income, influence, technical expertise, innovation, and core assets.

B4R as a cultural change strategy, capacity building, and programmatic acceleration provide guidance, tools, and resources for regional offices (RO) and country offices (CO) to identify and reinforce strategies to work with and on the various stakeholders in the business ecosystem to achieve programmatic outcomes at scale for children.

How can you make a difference?

As part of the organizational priority to mainstream business engagement into UNICEF’s programming, the Latin American and the Caribbean Regional Office (LACRO) is committed to providing support to 24 COs in the LAC region through evidence generation, capacity building, and ongoing support in Country Programme Documents (CPDs) planning. Building on the B4R capacity-building strategies being carried out in 2022, the purpose of this internship is to support the B4R team in the coordination of B4R virtual training journeys and in the development of national business landscapes for selected COs and relevant events related to B4R and CRB.

MAIN TASKS AND DELIVERABLES:

More specifically the purpose of this internship includes:

• Support the coordination of two B4R virtual training journeys for Bolivia and Dominican Republic COs.

- Preparation of the agenda with the master trainers and the focal points form COs

- Support for the inclusion of externa speakers, including the preparation of the consultations with business stakeholders

- Coordinate the delivery of the training and ensuring the seamless flow of sessions, including daily evaluation and improvement

- Gather materials used during the training, and the main insights of dynamics of the workshop, and share these with the COs

• Develop two business landscape mappings for Nicaragua and Venezuela COs

- Based on the methodology developed in the Regional Office, including – macroeconomic mapping, gap analysis, and developing recommendation of actions for COs

• Support the organization of 3 key events on the anniversary 10 years of Child Rights and Business Principles

- Celebration of 10Y CRBP in Costa Rica 1st of June

- Celebration of 10Y CRBP in Dominican Republic mid-June (TBD)

- Coordination of celebration of 10Y + business consultations on children right’s with UNGC, during the II regional Forum on BHR in Bogota mid-July.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will need these minimum qualifications and skills

  • Currently be enrolled in a degree program in an undergraduate or graduate school or be a recent graduate (within the last 2 years), in international affairs, political science, business management, or relevant fields in the area of UNICEF work.
  • Have strong academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records or, if not available, a reference letter from an academic supervisor or professor.
  • Have proven experience in coordination of trainings &/or events
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish.
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g., father, mother, brother, or sister) working in any UNICEF office.
  • Have no other relatives in the line of authority which the intern will report to.
  • Not disqualified under the UNICEF Child Safeguarding Personnel Standards.

SUPERVISOR:

The selected intern will work under the direct supervision of the Corporate Alliance Specialist in UNICEF LACRO.

DURATION:

3 months, full time - beginning the third or fourth week of April 2022

STIPEND:

In accordance with UNICEF’s guidelines, interns will be paid a stipend of USD 995.40 per month. There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.

INSURANCE:

UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern’s service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrolment in a health/accident plan prior to start the internship with the Private Fundraising Partnership (PFP) section.

LIVING CONDITIONS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The intern will be remote based and work from home. The intern will work with the PFP Section and report to the supervisor of this internship. The intern is not expected to travel during the assignment. The intern will be expected to participate in section meetings, as well as other UNICEF meetings of interest to the intern. Guidance will be provided on a regular basis.
