Position Overview

iDE is seeking the recruitment of a Business Development Coordinator (BDC). She/he will play a key role in the organization’s growth and sustainability by identifying, developing, and managing strategic partnerships and funding opportunities. This position is responsible for researching potential donors, identifying/proposing business opportunities, and creatively liaising with iDE’s international BD network in preparing high-quality proposals for application. This position also involves working in coordination with other colleagues in the Mozambique Programs unit and building relationships with key stakeholders to support the organization’s mission and programs and to advance the organization’s visibility and impact.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

The key responsibilities of the BDC will include the following:

Identify and Assess Funding Opportunities:

  • In collaboration with the Regional BD Manager and HQ, support the development and implementation of a BD strategy to achieve annual and multi-year funding targets.
  • Research and identify potential donors, funding opportunities, and strategic partnerships that align with the organization’s mission and programs.
  • Coordinate opportunity assessment processes, including go/no-go decision-making and capture planning, collaborating closely with the Regional BD Manager and Country leadership.
  • Lead the charge on market research plans to identify new opportunities for iDE Mozambique.
  • Under the guidance of the Regional BD Manager, develop and update opportunity tracker tools for the country program.

Monitor Trends:

  • Stay abreast of trends in business development, fundraising, philanthropy, and development to identify and cultivate new opportunities and strategies for growth.

Proposal development and coordination:

  • Coordinate response to BD opportunities, and support the development of technical and budget proposals that align with the Request for Applications.
  • With support from the Program’s unit and the international BD unit, lead in the drafting of high-quality proposals, grant applications, and concept notes in English.

    Evidence-based Business Development and Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure alignment between business development efforts and iDE Mozambique programmatic goals and learnings at the project implementation level.

  • Work with the Senior Management Team and communication colleagues to implement marketing strategies and materials, including capability statements, for communication, visibility, and partner/donor engagement.

Relationship Management:

  • In collaboration with the Programs unit, support the development of donor and partner engagement strategies and participate in building and maintaining fruitful relationships with donors, partners, and other stakeholders to cultivate funding opportunities aligned with organizational strategy.

Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements and regulations in all BD activities.

BD tracking and Reporting:

  • In collaboration with iDE’s international BD unit, keep abreast of and track the overall country portfolio trends in terms of country BD targets and tendencies.
  • Prepare monthly reports on business development activities, progress against targets, and key performance indicators.
  • Present reports and trends during the regular BD update meetings with the international BD team and support organizational knowledge management and board reporting requirements.

Requirements

Candidates are expected to have the following qualifications, skills, and experience, and to be comfortable with the following conditions:

Education:

  • Bachelor's in business, international development, or a related field. Master’s degree holders may also apply.

Experience:

  • Proven experience in fundraising, business development, or donor relations, preferably in the NGO sector.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in business development, market research, or analytics.

Skills:

  • Strong writing skills with some experience or aptitude in proposal development and grant writing in English.
  • Some experience or aptitude for budget analysis and/or development.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or any other necessary BD software.

Other Key Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a team and coordinate with various stakeholders.
  • Experience managing complex processes with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Portuguese is required.
