The Pension and Endowments Department (PEN) is responsible for the financial management and administration of the World Bank Group's funded benefit plans, including the retirement scheme - the Staff Retirement Plan, the retiree medical and life insurance programs - the Retired Staff Benefits Plan, and other ancillary benefits. The financial management includes asset management responsibilities and actuarial support. PEN manages about $37 billion US dollars invested across a range of asset classes, from fixed income to public equities to private equity, real assets, absolute return and credit strategies. The Pension Finance Committee, appointed by the Bank Group President and chaired by the Chief Financial Officer, has oversight responsibility for the financial management of the plans. PEN’s responsibilities also include the delivery of technical assistance on multi- asset class investment management to pension plans, endowments and funds for the future, and the management of the Pension Administration function. PEN identifies, selects, evaluates, and monitors investments, through outside managers, globally.

The Pension Middle Office team (PENMO) under PEN is responsible for providing a full range of functions supporting these investment activities, including the following: i) pension plan operational activities, ii) pension plans financial statements, iii) pension investment performance and attribution, iv) asset class exposure monitoring, v) all investment asset pricing and valuation, and vi) third-party clients’ reporting.

Duties and Accountabilities

Under the guidance and supervision of a Team Leader, the selected candidate will be responsible for specific individual tasks/projects and for working as an integral part of the team in executing PENMO's work program. The selected candidate will serve as business analyst role in the team and liaise between the business team and IT team to support IT initiatives. As a business analyst, his or her primary responsibilities will include, but not limited to, some combination of the following activities:

• Assist with system implementation, configuration and setup and ensure seamless transition to new systems.

• Act as a liaison between the business team, Pension Investment team and IT team on system access, connection, System design and configurations etc.

• Support operational and other business activities by working with internal and external parties.

• Support the automation initiative to enhance reporting using macro and tools such as MS Power BI, SharePoint, Oracle database, Data Lake etc.

• Assist with streamlining, structuring and maintaining the golden copy of data in an Oracle database leveraging various sources – custodian records, internal database, Investran, Burgiss, and any other system the PEN team uses.

• Assist with coding in SQL, Python and any other language to leverage the databases (Oracle and/or internal database) to support the team with analytics and ongoing Plan level and asset class specific reporting. Use specialist knowledge to institute best practices in designing databases, coding and leveraging advanced features of Power BI.

• Support streamlining of spreadsheets used for regular key deliverables using macros and other advanced Microsoft Excel features. Support automation initiatives to improve process efficiency for the team’s diversified work program.

• Train team members to support ongoing maintenance and updates of the databases and programing to accommodate changing business requirements.

• Assist in a variety of tasks in the team including but not limited to financial reporting, creation/maintenance of reporting dashboards, the annual audit and pricing.

• Communicate effectively with the investment team and staff both in Chennai and in Washington, D.C. headquarters on the status of all assigned activities.

Selection Criteria

1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education in finance or accounting. Professional qualification such as CA, CPA, CFA would be a strong plus.

2. The qualified candidate should have a sound understanding of World Bank systems, programing languages and be able to serve as a liaison between the business team and IT to support IT initiatives.

3. Seasoned finance professional with experience 1) to manage an Oracle database, 2) coding and algorithms in python, SQL or any other languages, 3) build analytics using data visualization to perform analytics and/or identify risks.

4. Advanced experience with Power BI, Power Queries, proficiency in Excel macros and/ or a programing expert who works in a transparent way, and with the ability to train department users.

5. Record of accomplishment in bridging business requirements and IT support.

6. Good knowledge of the Bank’s IT infrastructure, applications, policy and procedures, and able to troubleshoot and resolve issues.

7. Proven ability to multitask, deliver results and respond quickly and effectively to requests. Ability to work under pressure and attention to detail.

8. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills, including the capacity to communicate and discuss complex technical reporting issues in simple terms, both verbally and in writing.

9. Having the highest ethical standards.
