Org. Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund was established in 1949 by the United Nations General Assembly to provide retirement, death, disability, and related benefits for staff of the United Nations and other member organizations of the Fund. The Pension Fund pays benefits in 17 currencies to more than 80,000 beneficiaries who reside in 190 countries, and services more than 140,000 participants who work in the 24 member organizations of the Pension Fund. The Fund has offices in New York (United States) and Geneva (Switzerland) and two liaison offices in Nairobi (Kenya) and Bangkok (Thailand), respectively.

This position is located in the Pension Entitlements Section of the Pension Administration of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) Geneva office. The incumbent will report to the Benefits Officer or the Chief of Section. The Pension Entitlements Section is responsible for calculating and processing pension entitlements and for ensuring that all eligible participants, retirees and other beneficiaries are serviced in accordance with the Regulations, Rules and Pension Adjustment System of the Fund.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Benefits Officer and the overall guidance of the Deputy Chief of the Pension Entitlements Section, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

• Audits administrative actions and procedures relating to Fund participation. • Audits estimates of future benefit options and entitlements. • Oversees the delivery of project deliverables, ensuring they meet the agreed-upon quality standards and deadlines. Additionally, leads and coordinates testing activities within the team. • Prepares calculations and all types of pension benefits, computer generated or manually processed, including the application of the Pension Adjustment System. • Processes complex cases for payment of benefits, audit cases calculated by other Benefits Assistants and Benefits Clerks; Determines proof of residence, changes in country of residence, etc.; Advises individual participants, pensioners, beneficiaries as well as relevant units, e.g., Insurance Section and the Federation of Associations of Former International Civil Servants (FAFICS) and the Associations of Former International Civil Servants (AFICS) at local and international locations, with respect to status of retirees and beneficiaries. • Participates in the training activities related to the Section’s work, including the preparation of training material, and compilation of relevant information. • Provides information to individual participants and pensioners/beneficiaries as well as administrative staff of the member organizations of the Pension Fund on participation, entitlements and benefits. • Routes relevant requests to appropriate parties within the Fund’s secretariat. • Undertakes necessary research in order to provide accurate information; ensures responses to queries conform to the provisions and rules and regulations of the Pension Fund and the Pension Adjustment System. • Initiates computer runs for monthly activation and/or termination of benefits. • Prepares manual benefit calculations of complex cases. • Performs other duties as may be required.

Special Notice

This temporary position is available until 31 December 2024 with the possibility of extension, subject to availability of funding. The selected candidate is expected to start as soon as possible. Please note that this is a temporary job opening, open to internal as well as external candidates.
