ABOUT WFP
Assisting more than 115.5 million people in 84 countries each year, the World Food Program (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies, and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.
As the international community has committed to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition by 2030, one in nine people worldwide still do not have enough to eat. Food and food-related assistance lie at the heart of the struggle to break the cycle of hunger and poverty.
Since late 2019, the WFP Lebanon Country Office (CO) has been confronted with major changes in the context in which it operates, and which it responds to. The series of crises - political, economic, financial, public health, and the Beirut Port Explosion – that have hit the country from October 2019 have required WFP to significantly expand its activities – both vertically and horizontally. While WFP’s very large programme to date was mostly focused on protracted assistance to Syrian refugees, new and pressing emergency needs have emerged for both refugees and the Lebanese population – which has led the CO to expand and strengthen its data analysis and visualization, information management, and reporting activities.
The United Nations World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.
