You have:
- University degree in social sciences, media, communications, journalism, marketing, education, graphic design or related area.
- Six (6) years of progressive experience in humanitarian contexts with at least two (2) years in community engagement activities.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Arabic; Fluency in another UN language is a plus.
- Knowledge of community participatory tools for action planning and learning.
- Knowledge of communication concepts to produce effective communication materials and determine effective and inclusive communication channels.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The job holder reports to the Head of Protection and AAP unit or the designate. At this level, the job holder is expected to take responsibility for coordinating community engagement activities in WFP Lebanon.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (not all inclusive):
Within the assigned unit and delegated authority, the Community Engagement Associate will be responsible for the following duties:
- In consultation with the activity teams, develop a community engagement action plan that aligns with the corporate strategy. This should be adopted and reflected in the various implementation plans by activity units.
- Facilitate the participation of multiple stakeholders in the planning and implementation of community engagement activities. An age, gender and diversity lens should be applied in respect to affected populations - particularly affected populations and marginalized groups.
- Facilitate a harmonized approach to beneficiary communication across the activities, including but not limited to:
- Map out and document information activities from WFP and partners;
- Conduct communication and information needs assessments in close coordination with FOs and Activity Managers;
- In collaboration with the activity teams, develop communication strategies for recurrent messages and campaigns targeted at WFP’s beneficiaries on specific topics (e.g. awareness raising around disabilities);
- Map existing channels of beneficiary communication, evaluate their effectiveness and facilitate expansion to multiple, inclusive and innovative channels.
- In collaboration with activity units, communication team, partners, and inter-agency focal points, develop centralized and common tools for knowledge management e.g., key messages, IEC materials, service mapping, visual communication products etc.
- Support activity teams in budgeting for and incorporating community engagement activities in partners’ contracts (FLAs) as well as service providers’ agreements (SLAs and LTAs).
- Provide capacity strengthening to WFP staff and partners on inclusive community engagement approaches.
- In close liaison with the activity teams, M&E, gender, protection, and AAP focal points, establish entry points for community consultation and facilitate systematic collection and documentation of their views, as well as how these views influence programming and operations.
- Facilitate enhancement of and support in assessing the effectiveness of communication and feedback mechanisms adopted by WFP Lebanon.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
University degree (undergraduate) in social sciences, media, communications, journalism, marketing, education, graphic design or related area.
Experience:
Six (6) years progressive experience in humanitarian contexts with at least (2) years in community engagement activities (enhancing participation, access to information and inclusion) which were tailored to specific target groups is required.
Humanitarian/development experience working on community engagement in the field (actual setting where a project is being implemented) or other related area is desirable
Technical Knowledge & Skills:
Knowledge of community participatory tools for action planning and learning;
- Knowledge of communication concepts to produce effective communication materials and determine effective and inclusive communication channels;
- Demonstrated skills in humanitarian / development assistance, with a focus on communication and inclusive community engagement activities;
- Interaction with community feedback and response mechanisms;
- Understanding of information and knowledge management is an added advantage.
Languages:
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Arabic. Fluency in another UN language is a plus
