ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The post is based in WFP Beirut Country Office and the incumbent reports to the Communications Officer.

JOB PURPOSE

The Communications Assistant will be the focal point for operational communication activities in Lebanon and the focal point for ensuring WFP visibility in the field. S/he helps position WFP by strengthening its networking and contributes to implementing priorities and providing guidance on WFP visibility. S/he also supports the Communications team in gathering content from the field for donor visibility through creation of products and supporting with visits and events.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Ensure WFP is visible throughout the country through delivering visibility material in the field for WFP distribution sites, card distribution points and areas with heavy concentration of beneficiaries including both Lebanese and Syrian refugee beneficiaries.
  • Liaise with vendors, designers, admin to procure WFP visibility items as per branding guidelines and under the guidance of communications officer.
  • Work closely with all relevant units to enhance WFP visibility in the field.
  • Liaise with donor relations unit to ensure donor visibility requirement in the field are met.
  • Closely follow up plans of field office, shipping, retail, livelihoods and other WFP activities to ensure WFP visibility items are delivered and in place ahead of time.
  • Develop specifications for appropriate visibility items such as stickers, stencils, package prints, rollups and advice relevant units/filed offices accordingly.
  • Make sure every item procured has appropriate WFP visibility before sent to field and/or sub-offices and/or handed over to government and partners.
  • Ensure the visibility requirements are met as well as quality and application of donor/WFP visibility according to branding guidelines.
  • Works to enhance WFP’s acceptance by representing WFP to relevant audiences, including beneficiaries.
  • Monitor traditional and social media and report relevant information to senior staff to inform the development and/or evaluation of communications activities and strategies.
  • Implement improvements to communications methods and practices, to contribute to a better flow of information about WFP’s work to the media and stakeholders.
  • Support other communication initiatives when needed, including for public and digital communication.
  • Follows political, security, military and humanitarian developments, as well as other issues related to the WFP’s reputation/perception and capacity to operate in the geographic area covered and contributes to their analysis.
  • Perform other tasks as needed.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education. A University degree in social sciences, communication, journalism or related fields; postgraduate would be an asset. Experience: • 3 years’ work experience in a similar field, preferably with an international organization. • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and commitment to the humanitarian agenda. • Advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point, email, social platforms and email. • Knowhow of modern graphic and publication skills, photography and AV production would be a clear advantage. Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in Arabic and English.

DELIVERABLES

• All WFP activities /sites whether permanent or temporary (voucher and in-kind distribution points, schools where WFP is implementing school feeding, livelihoods, retail shops…etc) have visible WFP branding • Supplies procured has WFP visibility before shipped to field offices and/or government and partners as per WFP branding guidelines. • Donor/WFP visibility requirements are met according to respective to branding requirements. • Units/field offices/partners have got technical advice on visibility applications. • Create a donor visibility inventory through folders for each specific donor that includes communications material (videos, photos, etc.) following every field mission. • Create an inventory for available WFP visibility items and handle storage when not in use. • Media list is up-to-date and comprehensive. • Documentation (photo) of supplies with proper visibility. • Periodic reporting of status and application of visibility.
