Job Context:

The post is based in Beirut CO and the incumbent will report to the Head of Unit or his/her designate

Job Purpose:

Support the Country Office Protocol Operations, particularly in the Port Operations, clearance of shipments, and aviation cargo.

Duration of Assignment:

The Protocol Assistant will be contracted for an initial term of six (6) months. Contract may be extended based on business need and satisfactory performance.

Key Responsibilities (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):

Within delegated authority and under the direct supervision of the Head of Administration or his/her designate, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  1. Draft letters to concerned government parties to secure entry permits to restricted areas such as Ports, Airports to facilitate WFP operations
  2. Draft Special Permit requests, Declaration en Douane, or any other clearance formality required for WFP shipments
  3. Follow-up on the clearances of submitted applications with the relevant authorities for shipments or aviation cargo
  4. Translate directives and communiques received from the government pertaining to the current situation
  5. Support the logistics/port team in their official communication with the government for High-level visits and meetings
  6. Support the Admin Officer in updating the status of assets affected by the office explosion for the Country Office and Beirut Field Office
  7. Carry out Assets transactions on specialized platforms as needed
  8. Support in identifying the number of assets requiring replacement
  9. Perform other duties as required

STANDARD MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Completion of secondary school education. Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Translation and Languages is an advantage

Experience: At least four (4) years of experience in Protocol, Political Affairs, Translation or relevant fields. A minimum of one year work/volunteer or internship experience with a UN agency is highly desirable.

Language Fluent in Arabic and English. French is an advantage.
